The Real Sandhurst Royal Take the money now.
Why? Lose one of our best players, with likelihood that the majority, if not all, of the proceeds aren't re-invested?

Why? Because we'll never get any 'more' for him than that. And besides, the 'proceeds aren't re-invested' line is getting dull now. We know how RFC works, it's no exactly new news.

So sell him, take the money and don't see it re-invested, or keep him and have a player who creates more chances than the rest of the team out together. Since when did everyone start to care more about JM's finances than the team on the pitch?

It's not caring more about JM's finances, it's about Reading FC's finances and knowing how the board operate. When we sold Gylfi, did we then go out and spend £5m of it? No. Despite losing the 'big' wage earners like Matejovsky et al, did we splash the cash like a mad Next Boxing Day sale. No. Ever since we've dropped out of the Premiership, have we pared back, reduced wages, reduced outbound transfer fees year on year? Yes.

They are the facts of how the club work. I'm not saying I like it, but it's how we operate. If Kebe, Long and Federici know for an absolute fact (from their agents and the club) that a Premiership club or few are showing a very keen interest, do you think their heads aren't going to be turned? Especially after losing a play-off final? Really? Do you really think that there's such a thing as loyalty? Contracts mean squat, so there's no point in saying "but he has a contract until the next Rapture..."

The reality of it all is that we can and do produce players, make them better and sell them on. We're in that mode and we're extra vulnerable due to losing in the play-offs. We will lose players. We'll bring some in. But to say NO to £3.75m for Kebe, £4m for Long, £2m for Federici, is just suicide as we could never replicate that 'worth' for those players again (imo.)

If they want to go, which I agree they probably do, then fine, take the best offer out there, but all I'm saying is that we shouldn't just sell because it's a good offer, over the alternative being to keep a good player for another season. If we knew that we would sell Kebe for £3.75m and reinvest a substantial portion of it in a quality replacement, then great, but as that's not the way we operate then I can't see any advantages to the playing strength of selling him just because it's a good offer.

Be very happy with that. Kebe has so much potential, but doesn't deliver as much as he should....
Might do better with a pacier full back behind him mind.

Didn't Johnny Fordham tweet immediately before the Cardiff P/O semi-final that it was a done deal that he was going to Wolves?

Now its a done deal that he is going to Bolton.......

Oh, and for the record, EVERY player has a value and I would be shocked if £3.75M isn't greater than our valuation of Kebe.

If offered, accept.
