RUMOUR - Noel Hunt

by moo » 13 Jun 2011 15:25

Was just browsing the Ipswich forums to read their opinions on signing Ivar, and bumped into a rumour they may be after Noel Hunt.

Just paper talk as Hunt is actually contracted until 2013. We will only sell him if we want him to go - which is unlikey.

That applies to everyone who has a valid contract. But the fact remains that you can't keep a player who's determined to leave - and it'd be stupid to try.

Reading fans seem to want all our players to leave - we will end up playing last year's under 17's next season at this rate.

Hunt is a good player - why would you lot want him gone?

I don't say I want him gone, I say I'd happily sell him. He seems to be over-rated, so I'm thinking we'd get more money for him than he's worth.

He just seems inconsistent, drifts in and out of matches and is only effective for 15-20 minutes per game and is also not a patch on what he was before he was injured.

I just think there are better strikers out there that are within our price range.

Anyway he won't go - remember his interview after signing a new contract.

£1.8 Million would be a good price for Hunt, but would not want to sell him as we would probably not replace him. Regardless of what people think about him, he is a decent Championship striker and will score goals. With Long heading for the exit door, it is difficult to look beyond Hunt at the moment to see where the goals will come from.

I think the outcome of this will offer give us a good indictation of the clubs direction. Keep him and we will try and stay competitive, sell him and than Madejski is just interested in cashing in.

Have we got dirt on every manager and chairman out there? Every single one of our players seems to be valued at far more than seems reasonable at the moment.

Hunt's a top little hard working second striker with a good goals to appearance ratio (witghout having bothered to get anal and do the sums), but he is pretty ropey a lot of the time despite that in terms of what he actually brings to the side other than workrate.

We clearly can't afford to lose too many players because then you're in the realms of a whole new team and gelling becomes an issue. But I would have no problem seeing any of these players leave for these prices on an individual basis... I think the majority we'd be coming out well on top in terms of value.

Their fans only seem to want him as a winger...

With Chopra, Wickham, Scotland and Priskin already there I'd be extremely surprised to see him move. Especially if they're supposed to be signing Sharp and Cresswellol

Do you think Wickam will still be there come the start of next season (or at least the close of the transfer window) ?

He got 13 goals playing 29 x 65 minutes and 10 sub appearances (just over 2204 minutes) (2008-9) at a goal every 169 minutes.

2,204 Minutes 13 Goals (Arrived at the club carrying injury, typically played 65 minutes)
0,565 Minutes 02 Goals (The injured season, eventually had an op to fix it.)
2,128 Minutes 10 Goals (A fair feew minutes "coming back" and finding his feet.)

Even so

4,897 Minutes 25 Goals = a goal every 195 minutes. VERY good striking

its a sign of how much reading fc's stature has increased. we're not seen as a little club any more, and people know we're a well run club who doesn't have to sell if they don't want to. 1.8m though is stupid. we just can't afford to lose him with long going. id want priskin or dare i say it, scotland plus 1m and at least we get an experienced striker at this level in return.
