i like him, he's a good honest lad. my problem with him is that even when out on loan he has never been a goal scorer. he had a decent season under brendan rodgers but other than that (12 goals?) he's never shown any consistancy infront of goal. i want to see him do well, i just don't see it working out for him, but i fully expect mcdermott to show the same faith in him as he did with shane, and our supporters need to do the same too and not prove a hinderance to his fragile confidence.

Churchy will get us 15 goals if he plays every week and has someone to play off like Hunt. Not sure how he'd fair with Manset or Williams. I'm hoping Williams comes good and has a good season. He'll be hungry like Kitson was. He's been given a great chance at a high level and hopefully he'll be the surprise package of the season.

The problem is, he's not that quick or strong. He also takes an age to make a decision.

KEBEISTHEGREATEST The season we went up we brought over 5 players. Why can't we just buy players who are proven in the Championship!

who were these proven championship players we brought then in the 2005/2006 season then :?:

The only players we took in that year who made an impact were Doyle Hunt and Long (iirc) none of whom had any championship experience.. I also remember the moaning on here about signing a no mark striker from cork city

You're right about most questioning the Doyle signing, but Hunt and Long making an impact? Really?

They barely started a dozen games between them. Long spent the first half of the season aclimatising in the youth team/reserves and Hunt's regular substitute appearances replacing the immense Bobby Convey were generally greeted with jeers as he repeatedly crossed the ball out for a goal kick.

It's amazing how events since then can change memories quite so drastically!

Brett is supposed to be VERY quick, his main attribute

He scored in his trial game and scored/made a goal in his first reserve game

According to McD they wanted to make more use of him at the close of the season but he got injured

The last part is lack of games and confidence.

He's quicker and stronger than he looks, but he's never been the sort of player that needs strength anyway. He plays off the shoulder not on top of the centre halves.

LOL at denegrating hunt and longs contribution to 05/06
imo both were utterly crucial- shanes goals from off teh bench especially
and having a high energy player like hunt to replace convey in games that didnt suit him, or when he got tired, was worth a few points to us over the season IIRC

the whole point of that season was where our best players were injured, or lost form. these support players stepped up and showed virtually no gap in class between them and the player they replaced.

LOL at Schlongs goals being important that Season - all three of his league goals came against Derby, two as the extra gloss in a 5-0 win and the other salvaging a 2-2 draw...hardly crucial, and IIRC, we still would have won the league by a canter even if we did lose the second game.

Hunt on the other hand, made a bit more of an impact but really was only a reserve player and never ever looked like challenging Convey for the spot. Even when he played at left-back for a few games he looked out of his depth and everyone was praying for Shorey to return.
