RUMOUR - Gordon Greer

by LoyalRoyalFan » 21 Jun 2011 15:26

Crystal Palace and Reading FC are both eyeing a move for Brighton and Hove Albion captain Gordon Greer to add to their defences for next season.
Sources claim that both clubs want to sure up their defence meaning Greer could be playing alongside current Palace captain Paddy McCarthy or next to Matt Mills of Reading when the summer transfer window closes. 30 year old Greer only joined Brighton last summer and was immediately made skipper by manager Gus Poyet.
The 30 year old was awesome at the back for Brighton with his performances obviously not going unnoticed and although there is interest in the defender, it is unlikely that Poyet will want to sell his captain on after just the one season at the Community Stadium

No spring chicken but valuable experience in the absense of Ingimarsson and Kish who are very hard to replace IMO. Sounds like did well there last season.

Just emailed a BHAFC supporting mate of mine the news; this was his reaction...

Omg that would finish us off! (we have already lost 2 out of our 3 best players last season!)

Greer would be an awesome addition to any champ level defence (for me, selling him to us was what sunk Swindon)

So yeah, they rate him down on the South Coast.

this would be a cracking signing. any idea what sort of fee might be required? / length of remaining contract?
i'm not sure what bhfc are playing at losing their best players. i was expecting them to carry their momentum and push for the top 6 but that's looking more optimistic by the week.

Any idea if he's got any pace?

I wouldn't get too excited, I'd guess he's just as likely being eyed up as a replacement to Mills as an addition to the squad.

I see zero value in buying a 30 year old CB unless he had decent Premiership experience.
