Rumour - Adam Smith

by Barry the bird boggler » 22 Mar 2011 13:46

From an Ipswich fan site.....

TWTD understands that Town, Reading and Burnley have all offered contracts for next season to Tottenham right-back Adam Smith, who is currently on loan at Bournemouth. The 19-year-old’s terms at White Hart Lane are up in the summer.

Londoner Smith came through the youth ranks at Spurs and has won England caps at U16, U19 and U20 levels.

The 5ft 8in tall full-back has been unable to break into the Tottenham first team but was on the bench for their UEFA Cup games against NEC Nijmegen and Shakhtar Donetsk during the 2008/09 season.

A county and district 1,500m champion as a schoolboy, Smith went on loan to Wycombe Wanderers between August and October 2009, making four full appearances.

The former Tottenham U18s captain spent the rest of that campaign at Torquay, where he made 18 starts.

This season Smith has been with Bournemouth since September, new Burnley boss Eddie Howe taking him to Dean Court initially for a month with the deal subsequently being extended until the end of the season. He has now made 30 starts and one sub appearance for the Cherries, but is yet to score a career goal.

His invisible hand certainly gives him an advantage over most full-backs.

We'd need the wealth of nations to sign him - can't see Madejski going for it.

It would be an absolute advantage to sign him.

I can't see that having Smith, Griffin, Cummings and kelly would lead to erm.. economies of scale?

I guess at the end of the day, the transfer market is about supply and demand.....

I'm not sure where other teams fans get the idea that all Reading fans are middle class when we start making econmics puns on our forum.

Was at Torquay last season, decent young player. Attacking full back can play right or left side.

Some referees do give a lot of penalties against him as they see invisible hand-balls everywhere.

Now on talksport! First interview on his future team-mates, he said:

"It is not from the benevolence of the Kebe, the McAnuff, or the Harte, that we expect promotion, but from their regard to their own interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities but of their advantages".

Not sure what he's on about, but at least he knows the names of some of our players!

As long as him and Jimmy Kebe don't get in each other's way - we'll need the separation of powers.

Scored a late equaliser this evening.

Not that impressed - got taken to the cleaners by the Posh attack in the first 20 minutes.

Rumour: Adam Smith

Just read that we have an interest in Adam Smith, a right-back from Tottenham. He had loan spell with Bournemouth last season, but other than that I don't really know much about the guy or whether it's a serious interest on our part.

How could you overlook this pleasantly-evolving thread?

FWIW, I think a good back 4 is superior to opulence.
