RUMOUR: Kanu to Portsmouth

by UpNorth » 29 Jun 2011 08:26

Mirror saying Pompey have offered £500k for Kanu.

Could just be hia agent looking for a better deal but I can see us selling if this is true.

I thought they signed Kanu a few years ago.

Isn't he available on a free? I doubt we'd get £500k compensation.

Clubs will normally try and sort out a fee so that they can avoid a tribunal. In HRK's case he has been with FRC for a long time and has developed in to a full international playing in the Championship so a tribunal fee could be quite significant.

Portsmouth have made a £500,000 bid for Reading striker Hal Robson-Kanu. Daily Mirror

Personally would not sell him as do not think we would bring in anyone better

We've offered him a new contract so unless he can go up a league I don't see the benefit of leaving, especially for Portsmouth. That's a step backwards.

££££ as well.

Pompey aren't exactly shy when it comes to flexing their (empty) wallet.

Also, sometimes players need to move on to make the next step in their development. That's especially true for those that come through from the youth team sometimes.

Sure, but we may well lose McAnuff and/or Kebe and HRK becomes very valuable to us. At the back end of last season he showed his worth. I'll be very disappointed to lose him.

I don't think that HRK is an able replacement for either McAnuff or Kebe (yet). He is inconsistant and often makes the wrong decision (like hanging on to the ball for too long rather than laying it off to a team member). This is undoubtably due to him trying to 'make an impression' but this could cost us valuable points. This could potentially be fixed by giving him an extended run in the team but if we don't lose Kebe and McAnuff I don't see that happening....... Maybe Hal will see the promise of regular 1st team starts too good to resist.....

So just like McAnuff and Kebe then. The more he plays the better he'll get and hopefully more consistant.

He's out of contract so it isn't for us to decide.

showed last season he was ready and able to step up, and id be very annoyed if we allowed his contract to run out and lost him

Surely that is the point. We have allowed his contact to run out and so he can stay or go as he pleases. The only good thing is that we are due compensation - or can negotiate a fee - but we cannot force him to sign a new contract.

I suspect his agent is after a fee and influencing him - which is disappointing - but I have been concerned about what was going on as the club announced that a new contract was offered at the start of April and it does not normally take this long.

Just hope the player sees his future here as being brighter. The difficulty is that he probably wants to be first choice and he will not be whilst Kebe and McAnuff are both here.

HRK's got a good scoring record TB. If he starts regularly for us he's got a great chance of getting 10+ goals.

Be very peeved to see him go. I can understand why we let his contract run down as he didn't appear to be making great strides for a long while last season, but he seems to have made at at least half a step up in the last few games so keeping him is quite important.

I could see him getting a fair few games next season even if Kebe and McAnuff stay.
