floyd__streete Whilst I totally agree that Mills departure is no great loss, he will be the third centre-half to leave the club this summer. Morrison hasn't kicked a ball in an anger at this level yet. Do we expect the proceeds to be ploughed in to quality replacements for Ivar, Zurab and Mills? Recent history suggests not.

TBF 5 centrebacks is excessive when you have two or three players who can also cover in an emergency for short runs of games. If Mills goes, we'll get at least one centreback in and for me that would be enough with the possibility of loans or another signing in January. Two would be ideal, but I'd also be concerned about too many new faces, particularly in defence.

ffs we're losing our first choice defence. Replacing it with someone from lower league who might or might not be any good, and...someone else?

And still we've managed to reach the playoffs 2 years out of the last 3.

Seem to remember similar misgivings when we signed that unknown CB from Brentford, an injury prone wing back from York and Orient's reserve left back.

Pearce is perfectly qualified for this level and played about as much as Khiz last season. I don't think you can judge what we've got as an alternative to Mills, until we know he's gone and who / if we've got as a replacement.

I think three specialists and two / three for emergency cover + youngsters is enough. There's no way we need replacements for all three centrebacks who have / might go. I suspect we only got Khiz in because Morrison wasn't quite ready and Ivar was injured, so we were essentially down to two centrebacks, one of which is a little too fragile when it comes to not getting suspended.

Not to mention the fact we sign him 5 months before Morrison joined of course!

I think McDermott will want 4 recognised centre halfs as that's what he obviously looked for last year, although I'd accept that Ingimarssons fitness concerns might've meant he didn't count as a full option.

The thing with this whole episode is that, despite all the conjecture, rumour, stories of offers flying about etc., credit needs to be given to Mills for having stayed out of things and just let it all wash over him.

There hasn't (as far as I know) been any statements, interviews, tweets or indeed any sort of hint that he wants to leave RFC, not even the usual "sources close to the player" suggesting that he wants to test himself with a new challenge......

....and I think that he deserves a lot of credit for that.

No, they are a bit short on centre backs (a bit like us really).

I agree to an extent, he's not been out in the media making noises like some might've. I would say that the 'refuses to put in a transfer request' is a Mills' people generated bit of coverage just to remind the world that he's attracting interest though.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes either. Not signing a new contract (which he's perfectly entitled to do) is a pretty clear signal of intent though and leaves the club with few alternatives than try and cash in now if there are some very good offers on the table.

Bikey is very highly rated by the fans at Burnley but just doesn't seem to get n with either the players or the club.

I'm not sure what his attitude was like at Reading but it is well reported at Burnley that he gives somewhat less than 100% to training etc.
