Why do we have another friggin black hole? We sold Siggy and that along with the other sales would have more than covered last season's black hole even allowing for in-comings. Add into the mix the FA Cup run/play-offs and I'm struggling with this latest black hole concept.
We didn't seem to have this problem on the way up to the Premiership.

Wycombe Royal
Seal
Wycombe Royal Tim Dellor has said on BBC Berks (he is at the training ground and has spoken to McD) that the money will not be made available to buy players as it is already ear-marked to fill this seasons black hole in the finances.

So is the insinuation there that we start each summer which a transfer budget of say -£5m, therefore in order to have £2m to spend we need to recoup £7m.

Pretty depressing!

Probably, but I guess the simple depressing fact is that every season our revenues are lower than our costs and therefore the priority each summer is to first fill that gap. At least we have done it early in July this year rather than at the end of August.

Gawd knows what our deficit would have been without another good FA cup run and a play off final.

Actually Pearcey, we did. 2005/6 loss £6.5M, seasons before all losses of 4.6, 1.8, 1.6, 2.8, 4.6.........

SJM had more money then and the banks were friendlier!!

Fair comment Dave but in those days we were a buying club. We have been a selling club over the past three seasons and still have this black hole. Can you think of any other club that has spent so little on new players compared with money received from player sales over the past three years?

Costs are still higher than incoming.

Probably mostly wages.

I don't think any of us know the full story. Last year, we had the £4m hole before the season started. We then sold Gylfi, Cisse, Marek, Henry and offloaded the high-earning Raisak and other fringe players. We brought in Griffin, Harte, Morrison and Manset and loanee Kish. The wage bill reductions alone led me to summise that this years "hole" would be about £2m - we then went and made the PO Final which must have earnt us a small fortune.

TV revenues have gone down though as the new Sky deal is worth less than before, so an adjustment there. But I don't really think there's a £4m hole at all. I think it's more a case of the club holding its cards close to its chest in order to derive the best value from any future signings.

But I hope we are not looking at Harte as a CB replacement. Him and Pearce would be a disaster as the pacier forward lines in the league would rip them both a new one (not to mention a not lightening quick Griffin at right back). We need to spend something on replacing Mills, and I'm confident that the board and the manager have this covered.

leicester fans seem to be raving about the prospect of him joining and i have no idea why tbh? he is nothing special at all.
Someone on there forum quoted him the best defender/player in the championship??
He has a few quality games in a season but is far too often unreliable and can easily lose his head. never been a fan of mills and never will be im expecting a big boo from the east stand when we play the foxes this season.
He was never a great captain he makes too many mistakes and is not premier league standard at all.

If it helps the less than "sharp tool" posters on here, who demand "their money's worth as season ticket holders", yada, yada, yada

We have just sold Mills for the equivalent of

12,658 Season tickets

Each complainer's "investment" is worth only 0.0079% (less than eight thousandths of a percent) of one Matt Mills

Ultimately the club will run itself and you are meaningless in the scheme of things - why not just enjoy the sport?

floyd__streete No fan of Mills am I - he is a thug and a clown of a footballer - but this says all you need to know about the club's ambition to get abck into the Premier League, selling their captain to a (supposed) promotion rival in the same division.

Right, and if we rejected the £5m from Leicester and accepted same from Wolves, that would show our ambition.

Who's the clown, Floyd?

If we were serious about challenging for promotion (not that I believe we are), then there is no way we would have sold our captain and best defender to a rival.

Next season we are just as likely to be in a relegation battle as a promotion push.

the same is true of leicester.

this league is not so black and white. watford have haemorrhaged players for years but were still there or thereabouts last year. ipswich have thrown money around and got nowhere. so have middlesbrough.

We have just sold Emma Rigby for the equivalent of

12,658 Season Tickets

Each complainer's "investment" is well worth the 0.0079% (enough to give a shite) of one Emma Rigby

Ultimately the club will always have Wags at games but you will always be meaningless - so why not just feck off and let us complain.

Leicester fans are saying the deal is done and Matt Mills has signed.

To be officially confirmed a bit later.

floyd__streete No, what will happen is their creditors will be forced to take a tiny percentage of what they are owed and the club will be allowed to continue and compete on equal terms with frugal clubs like Reading.

We're hardly a frugal club if we have to find £4M-ish in player sales every season. To me thats just as unsustainable a business plan as Leicester's chucking the cash around in the hope of making it to the Premiership plan. We've had more than enough time to get our finances back down to Championship level.

He's a good defender, but he struck me as much of a muchness with the other three: Khiz, Ivar, and Pearce. I do wish we'd kept Ivar now. For all his faults, I still say that we played worse after Mills replaced him than before. Surely McD will have a good defensive replacement for Mills in mind. Gunnar is better at CB than he has any right to be, but he's likely to get injured a lot. Morrison we don't know about. Talk of Harte is well and good, but then who'd play left back? We'd need a replacement for him (we do anyway, at least as back up).

I've faith in Brian, though. I suspect he's got a list of players he'd like as long as his arm, just that he hasn't had much opportunity to buy them. I expect him to be straight off to the sales.
