Such as Bertrand and Cummings, so who are the others?

As for them being good successes, Bertrand obviously was, but Cummings? He's played a handful of decent games in two years having cost us a six figure sum.

He well come good this season but I don't think he's a success just quite yet.

Every time he came into the team last season we turned around our form and won, been played out of position several times last season in difficult circumstances and exceeded everyones expectations each time. Likely to be our first choice Right Back going into the new season with Griffin injured and we'll be a better team because of it. He "came good" last season and prevented injury crisises from actually being an issue, instead turning them in to wins (defensive crisis vs Leicester>>>first win of the season, Kebe/HRK/Antonio injured for playoff semi final>>>emphatic win at Cardiff to take us to the playoff final).

He's succeeded in much harder circumstances than Bertrand who had zero competition, much easier scapegoats around him and didn't have to do much to standout in a team struggling at the bottom of the league.

He made Michael Barnes look really good - ie. he improved his game far more than Hicks did.

re Cummings, I think he had a good impact last season yes, but my point is that as well as he did in the dozen or so games he played he's still only had a limited impact so far and it was one of the turning points of McDermotts first few months when he got Griffin in to replace his replacements.

I think it'll be a really interesting battle for the right back spot next season, but it's too early to say that he's a success story.

Can I just point out that of the twelve games Cummings played in last season, we lost only once. We also picked up, on average, 2.25 points per game with him in the side.

Ryan Bertrand (Loan again)

by Mr ReadingFC » 12 Jul 2011 20:24

Great when we had him a few seasons ago. I don't think we could get him permanently, just on loan. we could play him left back and move Ian Harte to the right.

Would you take him on loan again

Bit of a daft question. Of course but he won't be coming here.

Don't think anyone has mentioned this before, but maybe we could get Bertrand back on loan?
