Rumour - Callum Davenport

by Friday's Legacy » 21 Jul 2011 20:24

murmerings that we have considered/are considering offering callum davenport a route back into professional footall with a trial at reading. he's been plying his trade at lowly wooten blue cross. i assume his injuries were so severe after the stabbing incident with his sisters partner that he's no longer the player he was? still only 28/29.

We're too small for him.

If injuries have not affected him, then I would take him. Better than what we have. Some may be bitter he turned us down before, but that was his decision. We are not all Reading supporters.

He would certainly seem to be an ideal RFC signing as he would be very cheap. As he is currently playing in Tier 9-10 I doubt we would have to pay him more than a £3000 or so a week. Could be worth the risk.

He used to be a good player and if he is fit again and accepts a low wage then why not.

Having said that I have just read a newspaper article about him attacking his sister (although he was acquitted). He does not sound a very nice chap - although I guess he might have changed after all he has been through.

...as you say , he was acquitted so no case to answer...unlike the likes of Marlon King

Don't like him. I have vivid memories of him ranting about not getting a penalty against us and then getting one. Think it was for Norwich and they still missed the penalty.

Never really lived up to the early hype and obviously has baggage.

Also he's not played at this level for some time and we need someone who can step straight in and play.

Looks like he went to Wooten purely so he could be playing some games before he tries to get back into the football league.

Experienced player with a point to prove, exactly the kind of older signing we go for.

I say give him a chance, if he's up to scratch sign him. Everyone makes mistakes even really big ones, so if he's willing to work hard for us I'm not bothered by what he's done.

So you think it was a mistake getting Legs on loan? Tsss ... if CD is half as good as Legs I'd drive him to the club myself.

It was VERY stupid to choose Norwich over us in 05 though....
