RUMOUR - Danny Ings

by tomrfcurz » 08 Aug 2011 14:30

Make of this what you will, believe it or don't - up to you but I've heard from a VERY reliable source that RFC are ready to bid £1m for Danny Ings from Bournemouth as a replacement and I've also been told that we're finalising a free transfer for a defender, dont know any details about that but this Ings info seems to be the real deal. Anyone seen him in action or know much about him?

Wiki says

Daniel William John "Danny" Ings (born 16 March 1992) is a professional English footballer who plays as a forward for Bournemouth.

Ings signed an apprentice contract with Bournemouth in May 2008. He made his debut on 6 October for Bournemouth in their 2–1 away defeat to Northampton Town in the Football League Trophy Southern Section Second Round, replacing Jason Tindall in the 72nd minute as a substitute.

After a successful loan spell with Dorchester Town, Ings made his Football League debut at Milton Keynes Dons on 28 December 2010.

Ings scored his first Football League goal against Swindon Town on 1 February 2011.

Bournemouth OS says

Young striker, who can also play in a midfield role. Danny came through the youth system at Bournemouth and despite missing the second half of the 2009-10 season through injury, was handed a three month professional contract, such is the regard he is held in by the Cherries management.

Danny was at Dorchester on loan this season where he enjoyed a successful time and was recalled to take a place on the bench and then made his full debut away at MK Dons and his full home debut in the 3-1 win over Brentford. Danny went on to have a sensational second half to the season, being a regular goalscorer, including one in the play off semi finals

Scouts from Reading have been watching him.

Although, a lot of teams have been watching. I wouldn't be disappointed with this signing.

He's only played half a season for them once the rest of their strikers all jumped ship. Pitman, McQuoid and there was another one that i've forgotten!

I'd be surprised if Reading went for him with that sort of fee, would have thought ti would be a Manset style eye on the future signing. If Long goes then Reading really would be gambling on their forward line, very little proven quality there. Hunt gets a few goals but he's not a stand out player, not bad as a '2nd' striker. Church is woeful, Manset needs time, I saw him play for Hereford and he clearly has ability but I'd doubt his ability right now to play 40 matches and really lead the line. I think 25-30mins off the bench impact player is him at the minute and Ings would be the same. Brett Wiliams? More chance of me playing for Reading in the league this year.

Really cannot see us bidding a million for an unproven player. I know that other Clubs have supposedly had bids of around £500k turned down but can't see us even bidding that much for him.

If anything we might bid £250k rising to £500k based on appearances. Maybe rising to a million if he wins the Nobel Peace Prize, The Eurovision Song Contest and Miss World.

I can when the club will feel under pressure from the fans to replace Shane. £1m really isn't a great deal at the moment.

The story down here was that last week Palace made offers for the boy firstly ( before their friendly v Bournemouth) before the game, then at half-time and then at full-time.
The Bournemouth chairman has put a price tag of £1 million on him so using Reading's stance on Long at £10 million but in practice supposedly getting £6 million that means Ings can be got for £600,000.
Other clubs have apparently had offers of around £400,000 turned down.

A note of caution-Bournemouth sold McQuoid,a similar quick but very small player,to Millwall last season after he scored a few goals for Bournemouth in his first season for about £350-400,000 and not only has he hardly played but also hardly scored.
A fair longer term prospect possibly but he really is small (I would guess smaller even than Bignall) and surely our interest now would be in a bigger and strong target man with our long ball game?
