I would be happy with this, I saw him a couple of times on sky last season and he looked alright. Although it was a division below I think he could do alright.

rfc2001 Reading spending £1m don't make me laugh!!!

Sonko your a legend but please keep away!!!

? Lita, Fae, Halford, Bikey, Matejovsky, Seol, Rosenior*, Mills, Leigertwood**?

*equivalent.
**allegedly

The funny thing is that those have mainly failed to live up to the price tag.
You missed out Caskey,Butler,Forster and Murty who were not far off £1 miilion each so historically the club has flashed the cashin the days when monies received on outgoing transfers were much less than they are now.

which is surely why its totally understandable that the club is a bit reluctant to sign big money players

I don't buy that. That's down to the managers choice who to bring in, so critisism goes his way and shouldn't put anyone off of future signings.

i just think its a feature of that price band of player 1-5 million which means the gamble is just too big(at least for a club like ours who is attempting not to throw silly money at the problem)and their wage demands are simply too high for the negligible proven track record those types of player have.

you pay 3 million for a decent young championship player, who isnt guaranteed to be prem standard, and to attract him you must pay what the likes of leicester, or west ham would offer him?
im just not sure how the club could even consider getting involved in that kind of pissing contest

If the holder of the purse strings consistently sees mediocre performances from players brought in for big money, he's going to want more and more convincing that the next one will actually be more than a qualified success.

Depending on how much Leigertwood actually cost, we had to have him on loan for 6 months being superb before we signed him. That shows how reluctant we are to spend big and how bad our record at it is.

The reason we did badly second season in the Prem is because we didn't know what we were looking for in a player for that level. It was just way beyond our experience. So it looks to me like we carried on from the Championship days but spending more money. Our cheap gambles were more expensive, but only ever gambles for making in it in tier two. Our expensive players would have been good for tier two. In stead they were no hopers and mediocre at best respectively for tier one.

Look at the players we've sold as well.

Bikey, Sonko, Kitson, Halford. All went to Premier League clubs, all failed to make a decent impression on the Premier League after leaving us.

Hunt keeps getting relegated. Doyle has been good. Shorey's only just started to make it again.

ings doesn't score enough

we should go for le fondre, he'd cost about 750k and the guy is the class penalty box predator, i think he'd form an excellent combo with manset

Difference is Ings is 19 and Le Fondre 27 - Ings has shown talent and scored at a higher level than Le Fondre ever has.

err. just a few things

le fondre is 24

le fondre has scored 106 league goals, ings has 7

le fondre and ings both played at the same level last season and le fondre got 24 goals to ings 7

fair enough ings may have potential but if you want a proven goalscored albeit at a slightly lower level then le fondre is our man

Did they?

I've seen ALF play maybe 5-6 times and if he doesn't score you wouldn't even know he'd played. That's fine if the rest of your team is good enough to basically play with 10 men but I don't think ours is.

Elmer Park Really cannot see us bidding a million for an unproven player. I know that other Clubs have supposedly had bids of around £500k turned down but can't see us even bidding that much for him.

If anything we might bid £250k rising to £500k based on appearances. Maybe rising to a million if he wins the Nobel Peace Prize, The Eurovision Song Contest and Miss World.

I can when the club will feel under pressure from the fans to replace Shane. £1m really isn't a great deal at the moment.

We didn't apply any pressure on Madejski at the weekend did we? Rather than showing our disgust at the way the club is being run, we simply just cheered him as he came on the pitch. We all need to grow a pair

Yet another little 'un.
Surely we will go for a central striker who will hold the ball up ?

No,he was genuinely injured in Saturday's game at Charlton.
He might still be off somewhere as the chairman has been moaning about attendances,an excuse to sell yet another player.

or perhaps the vast vast majority of fans are glad hes in charge, happy with th eway he runs our club, and want to nmake it clear to all the breaindead scrotes that they are well in the minority, and should probably shush

I think so. Someone that either Church or Hunt and play off with Manset able to come off the bench more often than starting.

Manset seems to drift all over the place a bit too much, as does Hunt (and to an extent Long too). I'd prefer us to get someone in who will lead the line and give them all something to play off (whcih Long did pretty well too, although more down the channels than holding the ball up centrally). Perhaps the idea is that Robson-Kanu can play that role.

With that in mind I'd still be reasonably happy with a loan move for someone like Andy Keogh.

The alternative would be to get a true goalscorer in to sit in the box and make the most of the balls Hunt and the two wingers manage to get into the box.
