LoyalRoyalFan In other words we are not getting any new players.
With more than two weeks remaining of the transfer window, the opportunity and financial backing remain in place to further strengthen our playing staff." (from os/text)

LoyalRoyalFan So why does McDermott keep rambling on about a possible Manset/Church partnership being so good?

possibly because he wants manset/church to believe in themselves, and that he believes in them, and doesnt really want to come out saying stuff like- id like to rely on simon and mathieu, but they just aint good enough.
because he wants to give them at least 1 game together in which to prove/disprove it before wasting money on a striker we didnt actually need
possibly because he believes it, though that wouldnt contradict also wanting to bring in another striker for now
cos he wants other selling teams to believe that we are not that bothered about replacing long
many reasons, all of whichhave been demostrated in the past by reading FC

Isn't that second quote, according to many peoples logic, just going to make other clubs bump up the price for any of our targets because they know we want to buy players?
We had the opportunity and financial backing in place but felt that the sums of money being asked for didn't represent value for money. Additionally Brian McDermott feels that his current squad is more than adequate for the challenges of this season

Svlad CjelliDOYLERSAROYALER ...can anybody explain why the club seem intent on making any transfer fee "undisclosed" ? ...seems underhand as most transfer fees around are transparent ........
Is it a tax scam ? ...because it can't be to make other clubs unaware of our newly received bounty, as we never spend it anyway
Because we're really clever in the way we do these things, with lots of clever add-ons in addition to the base fee (appearences, WBA staying up and do on). So the headline figure and what we actually may get in the end are two quite different things
Plus if the fee is paid in installments (as we're usually good at, too) it stops people thinking we've got £^M cash sitting there to spend tomorrow. (But they'll still think this anyway, of course)
