It's an odd one, yeah he might get a few extra quid but having been one of the Swansea originals, pretty sure he was your keeper SJ when you won the League 1 championship? Having won that division, and got into the championship and gone up with them surely to have 1 season as the number 1 there and achieve the playing goals was more important.

As it is, i think this shows you where modern day footballers priorities are. They'd rather train, sit on the bench all year and get paid. Sad st8 of affairs.

Yeh, he was out of contract and wanted us to match the signing on fee that Wolves offered. We said no. He also stated something like 'Wolves were an established Prem club etc... and were more likely to stay up'.

We needed another keeper anyway but he probably would've been No 1, at least at the start of the season.

If you still need a new keeper, you could do much worse than a big Yank available on a free transfer at the moment.

With Hennessey as the current number one, De Vries will get his chance soon enough, believe me.

Victor Meldrew As mentioned on another thread WBA have kept the same two centre-backs that they had in The Championship and last season when they conceded a hatful of goals-a definite relegation prospect.

Is that a "deliberate" mistake?

rhroyal Only 15,000 at Loftus Road today.  Some show of support for their first Premiership game in 15 years.

Huh? we only hold 18k and Bolton brought 150, as for LOL at every level, it was a wake up call, but up until the goal, we were dominant, but class tells, we don't currently have that class, but with a bit of luck, when Fernandes completes his takeover, we can finally buy some, quite obviously, the chuckles did not want to part with cash as they knew they were selling.

Couple of things; it looked like Bolton brought more than 150, and even if they didn't, how much were the tickets?

Secondly, how is it that when we were in the Prem we weren't allowed to have hoops all the way round our shirts whilst QPR can? (and I have to say, I thought their shirts looked great! Exactly the sort of style we should have). The red numbers on the back of their shirts were very indistinct though....

£55 i think, it's a bog standard charge for away fans, irrespective of category, Bolton had the top bit, QPR fans were allowed to buy in the bottom bit, but restricted to the back 10 rows, to stop being victims of piss balloons.

£55 is just daft.

Anyone who fills and throws a piss balloon should be taken outside the ground and hung from a lamppost.

cmonurz Watched the Stoke v Chelsea game earlier.

Couple of observations - moans about a couple of things I guess we all accept are part and parcel of the game...

- 'Marking' the keeper at set pieces. Torres, Kenwyne Jones, whoever - I'd like to see something done about such obvious unsporting behaviour. You're a predatory striker, a good finisher, great with your head; so why the fcuk are you standing in the keeper's armpit?

- Falling into a tackle. Now don't get me wrong, the tackle on Lampard was a foul, and Chelsea should have had a penalty, but Lampard bought the foul, I froze the screen at the point of impact and you can see he is already on the top of his foot and going down, as he takes the contact. Just not very sporting, whatever happened to trying to stay on your feet?

Marking the keeper - 'greed to an extent.

Falling into a tackle - this drives me nuts.

When did cheating start in football? Has it always been part and parcel of the game?

First thing I remember winding me up was when players used to pinch 10 yards at throw ins. Then came diving. Then feigning injury. Now that diving itself is getting slammed the trend of looking for the foul like Lampard did yesterday, which seems to have started in the last decade, is the modern version of the dive.

Shirt pulling, falling all over the defender / keeper, blocking their way as happened with Shawcross every time there was a corner / free kick delivery into the box has is obviously now being worked on as a tactic by clubs like Stoke who are desperate to gain any little edge they can. To me it just makes the game even less of an enjoyable spectacle and irritating in the extreme.

As if there was ever any doubt - Cricket >>> Football.

Vidic, Rafael and Ferdinand injured. Time for Jones and Smalling to stake a bigger claim.

Ian Royal If the ref had actually seen it Barton was a gonna. He turned round just in time to see Barton go down.

Seeing p*ssed off players try and drag someone up off the floor is never a red. I certainly can't recall a single similar incident that was any more than a yellow
I can't say I've ever seen anything like it happen before at all. You can't grab someone and haul them around. Really, trying to make out he just picked him up off the floor is a ludicrous rewriting of what actually happened.
Players often grab each other by the shirt and haul them around in anger, because they're not allowed to raise their hands to their face as it'd be a red. How many times have you seen the proverbial "handbags" on a pitch. Lots of grabbing of the shirt (usually around the troat/shoulder area) and shouting. I really don't see any difference. Its a clear yellow, nothing more
I still think Barton conned the ref. If he hadn't got hot under the collar then it wouldn't have kicked off. As Wenger said both players deserved the same punishment and if Gervinho got sent off then Barton should have gone too!!

De Gea, Smalling and Jones are probably going to be very good players at the highest level in due course but their inexperience could present a big problem for Man Utd.

After his fluffs in the last 2 games De Gea could really use some experience around him for the next few games instead he's going to have a couple of virtual rookies. Could be interesting.

Why were fans booing a defeat on the first day of the season?

Did QPR sell all home tickets as I'd be surprised if the 3,000 unsold were all Upper tier away end + front 10 rows of lower tier.

Yes cricket is such a clean game, ball tampering, refusing to walk when you know you are out, betting scandals to name but a few.
Cricket=football and most other sports in an era when cheating is common-place and winning is everything .
