Fingers crossed and probably under similar terms to Long and Doyle, i.e. min release clause, better wages etc. Another good season and he could be next seasons black hole filler.

Jimmy Kebe

by The Prisoner » 18 Aug 2011 12:26

New contract to be signed soon apparently. No doubt with a big fat release clause in it.......

Good news if he signs though.

Oh, and we haven't ruled out new signings allegedly, but I'm kinda bored with that.

Kebe edges closer to new Reading FC deal
By Jonny Fordham
August 18, 2011

Jimmy Kebe has moved a step nearer to extending his Reading contract, which is due to expire at the end of the season.

Tying down Royals’ star winger has taken longer than expected because he changed agents during the summer.

But director of football Nick Hammond is pleased with the way negotiations with the 27-year-old are progressing.

He said: “I met with Jimmy’s people and on Monday and had positive talks with them. The discussions are still on going and we are very keen to keep him at this club.

“I think Jimmy is happy here and for him it’s all about being in the right environment. That is key for him and he seems to be very happy here.

“We’re moving forward with the talks, but these things are never done over night. Jimmy is fairly relaxed about it and he is enjoying playing his football here at Reading right now.

“I’m hopeful that we can find a solution as he is an important player for us.”

Hammond also revealed that he is in talks with a number of targets as Royals look to add to their squad.

With just three recognised centre-backs, Reading could look to add to their defence.

Royals may be about to renew their interest in 30-year-old former Spurs centre-back Anthony Gardner, who is a free agent.

Hammond said: “There are discussions on-going (in regards to possible signings). If we can strengthen the squad then we will always try to do that.”

Oh yes, so there is. It's the one entitled 'RUMOUR - Kebe to Fulham'. Can't see how anyone could not understand that that's about Kebe signing a new contract with Reading.

If only it had been renamed to give it an unambiguous title like this one has. :|

Pedants win again - thread's been moved has it not?

Back on topic, great news that Jimmy's signing again. He's in for a good season, I feel.

Shouldn't a thread about a current player signing a new contract be in the Team thread?

Fair enough - there are now official words on it rather than the musings of a local hack.
