cmonurz Fwiw over the last couple of seasons I have sent no less than five emails to RFC concerning the lack of hoops on our home shirt, receiving only one, particularly curt, response, informing me that (paraphrased) it doesn't matter what I think, because the shirts are very popular.
I imagine it's cheaper.Rev Algenon Stickleback H About the only thing I can offer in defence of the decision is that it might be to do with Puma and their designs rather than our request. I can't see why a club would choose to have a solid single coloured panel instead of their real colours.

Apparently the plain panel was introduced due to fan feedback (so presumably it has been considered to an extent before...) that numbers and names were difficult to read. .

Thinking back, we had red numbers for much of the mid/late 90's and early 00's, but I believe there were then 2 or 3 seasons where we changed them to black, and it seems that it was only after this that a plain panel became necessary (the most recent hooped shirt also had black text for some reason). Which would suggest to me that it wasn't the hoops per se, but rather having less contrasting colour, that caused the names to be hard to read.
In terms of asking what the fans want, they said that it had been considered but, as has been suggested on here, it is difficult to get a consensus.
So probably nothing groundbreaking in the response, but the fact they're saying it was fan feedback which led to the panel in the first place suggests that maybe alternative feeback would be considered too. Of course, there is always the possibility that more fans prefer it without hoops anyway.
ZacNaloen I think STAR should make it a policy of Hoops all the way round and a change in the Font colour so the "Can't read it" problem no longer applies.

That's interesting because I was told (a few seasons ago admittedly) that the playing staff hadn't wanted the hoops all round as they couldn't see the numbers. Whether this was for their own benefit or to be noticed by anyone else - including future clubs/scouts etc - I don't know.
And STAR do ask about hoops all the way round. It's part of their policies... which reminds me, if you want to comment on what STAR do and their policies why don't you go to the STAR Supporter Survey and fill it in.

what supporter doesn't know who their players are just by looking at them? i've never had to look at a reading shirt for a name or number to be clear who is who.
qpr use red numbering and lettering and it's as clear as day. sunderland have black numbering and lettering on a red and white striped shirt and it's still clear enough, and guess what, few complaints about it to warrant thec club considering a change to a plain back panel.
if the club want to continue with stripes and not hoops then perhaps they can consider going back to the 1984/85 kit.
