Team for Hull Away

by andrew1957 » 24 Aug 2011 10:31

Now is the time for Brian to step up, earn his pay and make some hard decisions.

We really need some changes now before we start slipping into a relegation tussle.

I think we have to drop Griffin (even if he is fit), Harte, Khumalo and McAnuff if we are to have much chance of winning. All of these seem to be off form and effectively passengers at the moment. Hopefully we will have signed an experienced CB by Saturday, but if not we will have to give Morrison a chance. Mills is a risk - but frankly he just cannot be any worse. For me it would be.

Fed
Cummings
Pearce
Experienced CB or Morrison
Mills
HRK
Kebe
Legs
Karacan
Hunt
Manset

I seem to have a worse impression of Morrison than anyone else from last night. I'd play Bryn in the centre of defence. I'd possibly want to give Mills a bit more time in training to work with the rest of the defence - he didn't have to do too much last night in that sense, and will probably be tested by Rosenior in a grimly ironic scenario.
Keep Jobi in the team despite last night's effort, and start with HRK up front with Hunt. I can't imagine Beast's going to be up for more than about half an hour after all the pointless running he was made to do last night.
I also think one of the problems last night was so many of the players not having played with each other, so I'd try to keep a familiar look to the side.

So: Fed, Cummings, Pearce, Gunnarsson, Harte, McAnuff, Kebe, Leigertwood, Karacan, HRK, Hunt.

Can imagine a lot of people will disagree with this...

McCarthy
Cummings, Pearce, Morrison, Mills
Kebe, Karacan, Leigertwood, McAnuff
Manset, HRK

Federici, Harte(Griffin if fit), Howard, Hunt, Obita

I'm giving McAnuff another chance because I don't agree with a lot of the criticism he gets and he's our captain, although he was bollox last night, but then no worse than the majority and a lot better than some. Would just as happily see Hunt in for him and HRK out on the wing.

I'd like to see Messi and Iniesta play.

I've heard they're lifelong Reading fans and Madejski can afford them.

You'd drop Pearce and not Khumalo? He didn't look like a footballer yesterday, let a alone a championship player!

drop most of the first team and play reserves and youths and ask them to play with passion, then get the dropped squad members to purchase tickets to the next home game out of their own pocket and hand them out to the crowd

A 4-3-3 set up would stoke things up for everyone, with a midfield of Karacan, Leigertwood and MacAnuff. HRK and Kebe would do the wide work as usual, both cutting in to support Hunt, who is more than capable of holding the ball to await support or flicking on for the willing runners. Manset is obviously an option, but he's not going to chase anything.

I'd be inclined to stick with Khumalo and Pearce at CB. Morrison doesn't sound any better (you could argue that he's worth a punt, I suppose, but I wouldn't). And I'd stick with Harte - he's due to get out of this tricky spell any time now.

And I think Cummings needs to be blooded properly now. He should be given the opportunity to stake a claim for the RB slot while Griffin's not 100%.

Great for going forwards, which we don't get to do too much because we're stuck defending for our lives. A 3 man midfield would be raped and the defence left open for even more punishment.

I'd consider a 4-5-1 with Hunt or McAnuff just behind Manset. He can double up going forwards but drop back to cover the midfield when we're defending.

I think you're being deliberately obtuse.

What's the difference between MacAnuff in centre mid behind the striker in a 4-5-1 to a 4-3-3? Karacan and Leigertwood will still be in the same reasonably defensive position.

LOL Didn't even see this

Why would the crowd want tickets from the players when they've already bought tickets to get into the ground to see said players?

Think we are looking at:

Feds

Cummings (thought first hour at valley it was our best player but fitness told)
Bongani (can't see BMc dropping him and I seem to be in a few that thought he done ok last night)
Pearce
Harte (I really think he is so far past it but think he'll be first choice for the rest of the season)

Kebe
L'wood
Karacan
McAnuff

Robson Kanu
Hunt

Subs
McCarthy
Gunnarsson
Manset
Church
Tabb
