Alan Partridge Means he's off soon then. Usual standard procedure is sign a new deal theng et sold within 6 months.

Whereas not signing a new contract would mean he's staying?

wouldnt that result in most players leaving soon after signing renewals, when in reality the opposite is true?

We are just covering our arse so next season we can sell him for £4m and cover that black hole

Rather than lose him for nothing and then have to sell someone else

YateleyRoyal
Hampshire Royal Shouldn't a thread about a current player signing a new contract be in the Team thread?

Yes, when it actually happens.

I don't know why we bother. We should let you all burn.

If McD/Hammond come out and say 'It's like a new signing' I will headbutt the wall.

Kebe's agents and RFC were supposed to be sitting down on Sunday to finally conclude his future.

As there is no announcement on the website I suspect that it has fallen through. In fact the Alfie goal feature has been moved to the top, so bad news is imminent.

No way we will let him leave for free in 12 months. Probably talking to QPR / Leics / Lille etc at this very moment.

HRK has been talked up as a striker all pre season, but suddenly we need Alfie to make it 4 strikers. Why is that then?

I would be devestated if true, but if theres no new contract soon it good be au revoir et merci

The enigma that is Jimmy Kebe. On his day he is one of the most exciting players I have seen. On his worst, to decribe him as Sunday League would be too kind. If he produced the good stuff more consistently, he would already be playing at a higher level.

Kebe off then, no replacement required as Obita will take over and from what I've seen of him he's a much better player (in terms of consistency). Another couple of million earned towards next season's financial black hole...

I have to say that as soon as I heard about the about face we had done with Le Fondre (we were not interested a couple of weeks ago) my thought was that he could be Kebe's replacement.

If Kebe goes I would imagine McAnuff would switch to the right and HRK back from forward to the left side. It might not be the end of the world if it does happen - McAnuff has looked better on the right in the past and HRK is our form player of the moment. We would have Taylor and Antonio as cover on the right and Obita as cover on the left side.

On the other hand maybe RFC are just covering the possibility of Kebe leaving - only time will tell.

I'm hoping Jimmy signs a new deal as, inconsistent though he is, he is now our most likely match winner.

Not sure any of us can judge Obita's consistency based on one competitive start against a League One reserve team. I think he could be special but it's early days. It is a big step up for young players and too much shouldn't be expected of them, after all Jake Taylor was not considered good enough to play regularly for Aldershot in his unsuccessful loan spell.

With his current contractual position, not to mention his current form, I'm not sure we would get offers for Jimmy above say £1.5 million so, even with our unique way of running the Club, I don't think it's an automatic call to sell him tomorrow. £3 million would get him though and at least temporarily end the experiment of playing HRK as a starting striker.

^this and why I wont be fussed if he goes. I'd rather see Obita get a chance.

We get one good game out of him in every 5 or 6 matches. Rather than lose him for free at the end of this mid-table season I'd rather he was sold and Obita was given a run out. He was the outstanding player of pre-season, with consistantly good crosses.

Anybody who thinks it's a good idea to sell Jimmy Kebe is a complete nonce!

I don't think anyone's saying it's a good idea, just that it won't be the end of the world if we do sell him.

Exactly that. We are pretty blessed for wingers at the moment and Kebe as good as he can be isn't nearly consistant enough. If we can't agree a new contract then it's not the end of the world if we choose to cash in while there's still value there.
