Svlad Cjelli
Hoop Blah This is the kind of move that some feared over the summer when it looked like Federici would stay and be number 1.

If McCarthy goes to Leeds and impresses (which I'd think is likely) then there will be a decent chance that he'll be off somewhere (perhaps Leeds) in the near future. That'd be a real shame in my book.

My thoughts exactly.

Most likely course of events for me is still Federici going in the summer and McCarthy taken over.

Predictable responses really. Federici is number 1...because funnily enough he's the best keeper at the club. Whilst Mccarthy is a real prospect and may well go on to be a better keeper, we aren't going to play him just because the fans want a home grown youngster in the team. Also, I find it remarkable how people haven't learnt that if mccarthy does at some point become a world beater...he'll be sold like sig...like long...after one successful season to a high bidder.

I don't think there's a lot in it either way (as in who's the better keeper) but I do agree on the last bit.

If McCarthy does turn out to be as good as we hope (ie a decent Premier League option or even top Championship standard) then it's unlikely we'll keep him for more than a season or two. That's not a moan at the club as such, but it's a moan at the reality that we're less likely to keep our better performers now than we were even half a dozen years ago.

Are we better off having an 8/10 keeper that won't attract as much attention from more ambitious clubs and so stay for 5 years or a 9/10 keeper who might get taken from us after a promising season.

I never really felt that in the past, despite losing the likes of Taylor, Williams and Shaka last time round. Now it just feels so much more inevitable.

That's all very well, until you remember Fedrerici's pleas in the summer for someone to come and sign him up. So the 8/10 keeper is only here until he can find someone to buy him....

Absolutley.

That no club showed enough interest to take him this time (I'm reliably told there was previously though) goes to show that the 8/10 keeper (that's higher than I rate him at this level btw) doesn't attract the interest that the better one probably would.

No doubting that Federici wanted away, which I think we agree is another reason why perhaps McCarthy may have been the better option IF we could've ensured someone paid us decent money for the Aussie.

specialjon I'm happy for the lad to get games but why should we help out a club who we're directly in competition with? Short term risk for our long term gain?

How is this different to Mills going to LoLeicester?
Same league, and the club wanted one of our players.
The reason?
It suited us for it to happen.
Andersen's value could/should increase, and I guess he's not allowed to play against us.

Andersen? It's McCarthy. Anyway. I guess the clincher for me on the Matt Mills deal was the alleged £5.5 mill they paid us. If Leeds want McCarthy for £5.5 mill, i'd personally drive him.

My main worry is either if Leeds get in the Play-offs instead of us or they don't get Relegated instead of us. Obviously both of these things probably won't happen.

Clearly we have to sell one keeper, but I reckon we will bide our time. Andersen will go on loan for second half of season, hopefully to a champ club

Do you think another Champ club needs a keeper with so little experience and so young for a long loan.

Federici, IMO, is the only keeper we should be thinking about getting rid of and not because he might be worse out of them, just because he is established enough and well known to get a decent transfer fee for him if we needed to cash in on anyone. I've got a feeling we may be seeing a lot of Andersen next year in either the league or the cup, or both and hopefully so! Looks like being understudy to Feds a bit longer with McCarthy off to Ipswich on loan
