I don't think there's a lot in it either way (as in who's the better keeper) but I do agree on the last bit.
If McCarthy does turn out to be as good as we hope (ie a decent Premier League option or even top Championship standard) then it's unlikely we'll keep him for more than a season or two. That's not a moan at the club as such, but it's a moan at the reality that we're less likely to keep our better performers now than we were even half a dozen years ago.
Are we better off having an 8/10 keeper that won't attract as much attention from more ambitious clubs and so stay for 5 years or a 9/10 keeper who might get taken from us after a promising season.
I never really felt that in the past, despite losing the likes of Taylor, Williams and Shaka last time round. Now it just feels so much more inevitable.
