Far from it. But everyone loves a pacey winger and he has proved in spits and spurts that he is unbeatable on his day, and those that don't watch him week in and week out only see the good bits. He's too inconsistant and currently looks disinterested. It wont be the end of the world if he does a few months earlier than expected.

Step up Jordan Obita and give the kid a chance to show what's he's all about, along with HRK and McAnuff.

I agree RR. Seeing a winger do his stuff and destroy a full back is one of the joys of football. As is seeing a tough tackling central midfielder wipe out an opposing player with a perfectly timed tackle. But with Jimmy Kebe, all you get is a Forest Gump feeling.

none of us know the details of what players earn, bonuses, add-ons...contract lengths we do. He get's a 3 year deal and is 3 years older than Kebe. I'm not saying Kebe has been hard done by or the club are right to have done what they have done, merely pointing out comparisons in at attempt to show a balanced view rather than immediately assume the club are right (whatever has happened behind the scenes) which so many of the modern day, level headed, financially astute, their club can do no wrong football fan seems to jump on these days of which RFC has more than it's fair share!
as opposed to the rabid, drooling, mental headed finacially inastute ones?

yeah, god i wish we had more of them
back the boys and make some noise!

Probably a dig at me... usually is.

Although if it is it's funny, because I'm far from Kebe's biggest fan.

M-U-R-T-Y Hammond appears to be talking about wages, but Jimmy the length of the contract, odd. Offering him a 12 month extension is a bit of a joke, when McAnuff has been handed a 3 year contract.

Fair play on him for coming out and speaking, maybe if Hammond pulls his finger out and offers him a deal he deserves, he'll get back to his best again.

Maybe Hammond, who has rarely dropped the ball, thought a 1 year extension might be more attractive, or at least less of a commitment. As previous people have said, he has often given the air of wanting to move on, being less bound to a club would be more attractive. I'm guessing Hammond offered that on the basis that we promise to sell when the offer comes in, but we want a fee from it. It's good business if that's the case and another well done to Hammond.

Offering any player only a one year extension to their contract usually means the Club are unsure of that player's long term value and effectively means the player is 'on trial'. Extremely odd then to make this the opening offer to Kebe. From that moment I would say the chances of getting him to sign a new deal reduced considerably. Much better to have opened with at least a two year deal and then when and if the player's wage demands exceeded that they could have the said they could only afford wages approaching that level on an initial one year basis with a review in a year's time.

If the situation on and off the field doesn't improve considerably before January I can see little point in not selling Jimmy in January for the best price we can get.

Please don't compare him to Terry Henry. Kebe is far much better than that piece of cheating handballing crap.

lol the whole credibility in that article can be dismissed by reading the first paragraph.

"James Harper believes Reading new boy Jimmy Kebe is set to take the Premier League by storm, likening him to former Arsenal star Thierry Henry."

That was enough for me.

Perhaps he could join Harper at his Premier League club

Very good point although we don't know whether in those cases a one year deal was offered 'initially' which is a word I probably should have included in my post.

Having taken your comment into account I lean towards the theory put forward by others that we felt these players wouldn't sign a long term deal on the money we could commit to over two or three years but that we could offer them more lucrative wages in a one year deal and that would be more acceptable to them. It seems previous players understood and accepted this whereas the enigmatic Jimmy did not.

It seems the difference between Kebe and Long is that although they both believe(d) they were capable of playing at a higher level, Long did not believe himself 'too good' to play for Reading which some of the vibes coming from Jimmy suggest the Malian Magician may feel.
