Barry the bird boggler Another comedy thread, Reading buying a player and one likely to be in the 1m price range. Somehow I think this might be a load of cr*p.

Very true. However imagine Le Fondre and Rhodes in the same team!

Manager has stated 2million isnt enough, We would proberly bid 500,000 or something

And what has that achieved?

Liegertwood is hardly playing at the same standard as last season
Mills is a youngster learning his way in the game
Gorkss - granted. Looks like a very astute signing
Kumalo - who?
ALF is showing signs but way too soon to say if he is the real deal or not

Where is the strength in depth? What happens in the event of injuries or suspension? What game changers do we have on the bench?

To be fair the bench has served us well several times this season. Off the top of my head Robson-Kanu,Manset and Hunt have all come off the bench and made match changing contributions this season.I'd bet that our bench isn't far from scoring more goals than our starters this season. The problem is we have too many players who seem more suited as impact substitutes than starters as underlined by our utterly woeful 1st half goal-scoring stats.

There's decent enough depth it's just that the first 11 isnt that special and the side that's playing regularly now is a fair bit different from the one that played the first few games. We've got 18-20 players that are more than decent at this level it's just that Gorkks (and a push Federici this season) aside we've no individuals that would threaten the starting 11 of a top 6 team.

In "7 card brag" parlance our stopping hand is pretty good but we don't seem to have a strong enough opening hand to really be successful.

We'd probably bid £150k with add-ons such as

Rhodes getting into Scotland World Cup Squad £50k
Rhodes helping Scotland to World Cup Victory £100k

:D

No way would Rhodes or even Kilgallon come to a club that is showing little, if any, ambition ... the cloth cut coats just dont fit them ! :D

At this rate give it a couple of days and the bet will suddenly be that we won't spend more than £2m. Then £5m, then £10m....

We probably won't spend £1m+ in January. But then we have already spent, actually thinking about it, somewhere between £1m - £2m depending on who you listen to (not the club btw). We'll probably loan someone with a view to a buy and also sign someone for around £300k - £500k. Maybe a <£150k er / freebie too.

Making this probably one of our top 5 highest spending seasons ever.

I dont think we will spend more than £200k, thing is if we are not in a position to challenge come the new year is there really much point? We won't get relegated this season so maybe we can just simply consolidate and go again.

That said if monsieur Jimmy goes then i think (well hope) that we go and buy a half decent winger, who may actually increase our creativity

Unless those two or three good games he had were a positive blip in form during an otherwise disappointing season....
