After every game someone, somewhere says they've heard Richard Branson wants to buy their various different Clubs. I'm afraid stewards wouldn't be privy to any information about potential buyers anyway as they are only at the stadium on match days.

the ammounts quoted when in the prem, and 1st year back down seemed pretty reasonable to me

no idea what hes asking now, neither do you

You think an asking price that is more than the value of Newcastle United (£55m) was deemed reasonable when we were in the EPL/relegated, are you actually f*cking retarded

Madejski is egoistic w*nker and will want ridiculous amounts of money, you should know his mindset will never change. If the club was that attractive it would have been sold by now. He's wanted to sell up for years now!!

I heard Branson was going to buy us, and then to calm our fears, buy Gylfi back outright. He's also considering bids for Doyler and Long.

I thinbk you're mistaken with that £55M for Newcastle.

£55M was for an initial 41.6% stake - the total price Ashley paid for complete control was £134M. Plus this deal included taking on the liability for what Ashley thought was £70M of debt but turned out to be closer to £100M. So make that between £204M and £244M in all.

no need to be rude, or swear, you disagreeable young oik!

why is the value of newcastle 55 million?
the value of their naming rights for the stadium was 50 million, so is the rest of the club only worth 5?

and what svlad said^^^^
between £204M and £244M in all.
now who is the retard?

FACT still remains, you have no idea what hes asking now

I think you should write a personal letter to him as you are this angry. I'm sure he will take your thoughts into consideration and reduce his asking price thusly.

Richard Branson aye? I can't see it. He just comes across to sensible to buy into football and throw his money away. Nice thought though.

My God, you really don't think much of SJM do you?

What is his current asking price? Do you know? Will it include the new buyer taking on the directors loans, or will they be written off as part of the deal?

You have no oxf*rd clue, same as anyone else.....all there is is a bit of speculation as to how SJM might value the club...

From the last set of published accounts we owe SJM around £25M in directors loans - the clubs assets total £31M - that would mean that in order to pay down the loans, and buy the assets at market value a buyer would need to stump up nearly £60M, and SJM wouldn't make a penny "profit" over market value - all he'd do is get his debt repaid - how unreasonable of him.....

[sarcastic mode]I can't understand why he's not sold it yet, after all there are mega-rich, reputable people queuing up to buy football clubs in the current climate[/sarcastic mode]

I strongly suspect that this has nothing to do with SJMs ego, or with him making loads of money (however, I can't see him wanting to sell at a loss - that's his prerogative as owner), and is all to do with him wanting someone to come on board who genuinely has the best interests of the club at heart and is prepared to pay a price that reflects that. Drop the price to a bargain basement level, and you will most likely get a bargain basement owner, in it to make a quick buck.

I'll never understand why so many people seem so desperate to see the back of SJM - he's presided over the best years (or at least the most successful years) in the history of this football club, and at present the club is in pretty good shape. No, we cannot afford to go and spunk stupid money on "headline" players, and we cannot prevent players from moving to other clubs if their talent, agent or income expectations mean that staying here isn't going to happen, but on the whole I'm loads happier knowing that under the current regime the club is stable, and can still compete at our level with at least a half chance of promotion (anyone would think we were 2 points off the bottom of the table rather than 2 points off the playoffs the way some are moaning).

For those that want to see the back of SJM, I think you're little more than spoilt children. He's given us, the fans, a lot in the last decade or so, and hopefully his legacy will be a stable club, with new owners who can be trusted to take us forward in a similar stable fashion..

What he actually witnessed was an argument between two stewards who were each accusing the other of being a virgin.

These things can so easily be misinterpreted.

Don't think it was me as I wasn't at the game. Also, think you would have recognised me, as I am Richard Branson and I claim my own five pounds. Oh, thanks very much Richard.

Well he's throwing enough money away with his F1 team.

Yes, but this gets him global exposure and takes him to many exotic destinations. Not sure the Mad Stad on cold Tuesday evening in November has quite the same appeal

I do some work with the Red Bull F1 team and asked them why they "waste" so much money sponsoring F1. The answer was that F1 generates hours of TV coverage as the mobile advertising hoardings whiz round the track, and many column inches on the back (and front) pages of newspapers. That sort of coverage would normally cost far more than the millions they spend on F1. So they actually think F1 is a bargain!
