City Raid

by Harpers So Solid Crew » 18 Dec 2011 08:28

Nothing at all concrete, but a raid for one of Maynard, possibly too expensive, or Pitman has to be a possibility.

We wanted Pitman once before, I think VM can confirm we were keeping a close eye while he was still at Bournemouth, now he is not getting games as Maynard is too similar. All the talk is about Maynard leaving so a sneaky move for about £1.5mill could see us get Pitman, while City can then afford to keep Maynard.

We aren't going to spend another £1.5m on top of the circa £2m we've already spent.

Really, we have 3 good keepers, lose McC and gain Pitman, would be good business, or Feds and gain Pitman. Would also allow McD to sell one of the strikers, should he so wish, however better managers at this level, Copps and Pardew said you want 4 good strikers in this league, so we could have that.

What's it like sitting on a cloud and listening to cuckoos all day long?

And I'm with SCIAG, we've got four good strikers for this level. None of them are outstanding of course. But then two of them were playing League two this time last year and another one is an academy product possibly beginning to come into his own.

So Ian why did you write this on the 9th? of this very month?

Someone with experience at this level who can partner Le Fondre - probably have to get shot of at least one of Hunt or preferrably Church in that case.

City have two players who according to their manager do it around the box, we have Church, le Fond and Hunt who do it in the 6 yard box, a striker that can score from 18 yeards would be a bonus to us at this time IMHO.

Manset can be a target man, and can also run on from 40 yards and score as has been seen from his goals at hereford and rfc.

It was fourth on a list, where only the top couple were really very important. And seeing as Church has started to find some form since, it's even less important now. Although I'm still not convinced that Church and ALF are a great partnership.

It's certainly not something we're likely to be spending over a million quid on, no matter whether we get a few in or not.

The question is - why would we bid 1.5 million to a divisional rival (who are currently lower than us) for a striker who can't even make their first team, when we already have a selection dilemma regarding who our best starting forwards are.

Trouble is he has to have a lie down for ten minutes after running 40 yards.

We're reasonably predictable Brendy. Big spending typically goes on in the summer (Ledge, Gorkss, Bikey, Mills, Hunt etc). Don't spend more than a couple of million a season at this level.

Feel free to take the piss if we spend £1.5m in total in January, let alone on one player.

When was the last time we spent £500k+ on someone over the winter? Matejovsky?

i wouldnt dream of taking the piss

plus i just dont think we need to spend that much- if anything a new CB as back up to Porkss, but i reckon we'll go with morrison and harte/brynn there instead
maybe a new striker, but with church looking to have some confidence now, i dont think we will there either

we're fine

just saying, you can never be sure!
