I don't see how a player can get an assist for an own goal personally. Surely an assist is a completed pass. That wasn't.
Great cross regardless.

taipeiroyal I don't really understand why everyone gets on Snowballs case so much. Yes, he is fairly direct in his responses and that upsets some people but choosing to write in a larger font? So what? Are people really that sensitive?
Keep posting the way you like Snowball, you may or may not have a big ego, I don't really care...but I do enjoy your posts!

I'm sure, as you rarely get to games, you have the time to look up the FA-Approved
Official Definition of "an Assist"
If you care to note, I call assists "Major Contributions" these days.
For example, the incredible pitch-length run by Kebe last season
officially warrants no "assist" or a "major contribution"
To date, this season I have awarded 4 major contributions which don't fit with the OS.
Last season I gave an assist to Shane Long (Pearce's goal early in the season) which the OS had missed.
You, Ian Royal, agreed with that decision.
Everybody knows which goals were involved with MCs and they can either accept my view or discount it.
What they can't do (and this pleases me greatly) is CHANGE my view.
It is my opinion that Simon Church (a long way from being my favourite player) made a real
contribution to the "Job McAnuff" second "goal". I actually believe he should be credited with the goal
but I have satisfied myself with giving him a "Major Contribution"
I have already explained my position but will do so again.
Church's challenge CLEARLY changed the flight of the ball.
(a) I believe 95% that he flicked the ball and changed its direction.
(b) There's a small chance, a SMALL chance, that it was the defender's touch.
(c) BUT, had Church not made the attempt. there is a much-increased possibility that the defender would have headed McAnuff's shot clear.
(d) The action of Church-Defender changed the flight of the ball AND unsighted the goalkeeper
Now PLEASE keep arguing. I just love to see all the wasted effort.

Well see above his rather patronising post to IR defining an assist, and you may have some idea why some get on his case!

Harpers So Solid Crew Oh and the slight change in direction probably meant the ball keep high enough to beat the keeper, if you look the ball was going to drop then it stayed high thanks to the touch.

Great cross that puts defender under immense pressure to reach the ball before the striker, and hence score an OG, is most definitely an assist.
