Is he any good then? Trouble is we're not replacing "like for like" ever are we. Murts made this exact point this morning on BBCRB.

so you want to bring in a coffee coloured malian pacy, tricksy, but inconsistent winger to replace him?

Does Freddie Kanoute ever play on the wing?

Do you know, I do get tired of people like you trying to be clever and taking everything I say literally. What I mean is, is this bloke any good for £400k from Northampton - is he fast, is he going to maintain the quality we have down that wing or better it? If not, we're going backwards with some of our purchases. I know we're not meant to have any money - but if we're coping ok with the wages we're paying at the moment - why not spend whatever we get for Kebe etc all on another player of equal (or better) ability.

I don't think it was too serious a comment.

Probably not, but why can't people just respond seriously once in a while. Or not bother if they have nothing to bring to the discussion. :|

Spose but I guess there's a limited amount of info a set of Reading fans are going to have on Jacobs (happy to be proven wrong). Otherwise it'll descend into a general thread on the club's transfer policy, which is just as off the point.

calm down dear- was only having a laugh-even if only i appreciated it-i can only apologise if i caused you any upset on this cold monday morning- i will endeavor to treat life more seriously in future

how much will we get for kebe by the way?
ive heard people saying 500 k, in which case thats about right
even if we got a million we may have to factor in wages for the lad(and sheppard out of it)

This is the guy that had a blinder against us in the Carling Cup last season. BM discussed him already (didn't he?). We may have even made a bid.... possibly just an enquiry.

don't remember him as a winger as such - more of an attacking midfielder. Tricky, clever player, but a tad lightweight from my vague memory of that (dreadful) evening.

We won't ever be likely to replace outbound first team players with more expensive or immediatley 'as good' players. That's the nature of the game. If we sell a first team player then 9 times out of 10 it's because someone bigger is impressed enough with them to offer them a better opportunity somewhere else.

We're unlikely to ever sell someone for £2-3m+ and ever spend the same on their replacement.

We should be able to go out and bring in players who are good enough for this level though, and players who are good enough to improve our team. We pay enough for this level to be competitive in this league, that should mean that we can compete for the best players in, or coming into, this league (ie not those that are being sold off into the Prem).

Do we really want another Kebe? I hope we actually look for someone a little more rounded as a player. Yes I want to be excited but I also want a player who'll excite me more than 2 or 3 games out of 10. That might mean their best isn't as good as Kebe's but it'll probably mean we see their best a bit more often.

We get ripped to pieces by lower league opposition in the league cup every year though.

I appreci8 that could be construed as an argument for filling our team with players who have ripped us apart in the league cup.
