Royal Lady Do you know, I do get tired of people like you trying to be clever and taking everything I say literally. What I mean is, is this bloke any good for £400k from Northampton - is he fast, is he going to maintain the quality we have down that wing or better it? If not, we're going backwards with some of our purchases. I know we're not meant to have any money - but if we're coping ok with the wages we're paying at the moment - why not spend whatever we get for Kebe etc all on another player of equal (or better) ability.

No we'd buy him because he's seriously sub-standard.

Spout less mindless drivel - get fewer sarcastic answers.

And I apologise I'm being so rude, blame that autistic statwanking freakbag.

I haven't posted mindless drivel. I asked a question - because unless people who have seen him can say that he is akin to the type of player Kebe is, then he's not as good and, as a team, we will be going backwards. Thank you very much.

but it doesnt mean that at all- a different player could be good, but in different ways, or could be less good, but more consistent, or be less tricksy, but keep the ball better

etc

Perhaps we believe that he has the potential, with our coaching, to be as good as or better than Kebe?

Totally agree. If we're to improve I think we need a more consistent threat than Kebe, and probably a player who will help us to play a more controlled and composed style of play as well.

It could be that even if this guy isn't as good at times his impact on the team would be more positive.

Personally I like think along the lines of a Little comparison. He's hardly the same sort of winger as Kebe and yet most would probably say he was better. And in football you frequently have to take a half step back to be able to take a step forward.

Unless you are a top club it simply isn't viable to buy in the ready made replacement of the same quality in most circumstances.

If you're selling to a better / bigger club it's because that player is at such a high standard. Any player of equal quality would also be going to a bigger / better club. And you'd have to run the club in such a way that it's wages and other costs were less than its non-transfer fee income to be able to use the entire fee you receive assuming you can find a player of that quality willing to come. We know we can't do that because it's costing more than our income currently, just to keep the players we have, let alone add new and better ones.

If the player is now on the decline and is being sold off to a lower / equal club or being released then there aren't the funds coming in to afford to buy in the same quality.

The only viable way is to predominantly bring in lesser / under valued players and develop them into the same quality. That doesn't have to be very cheap, unheard of gambles. It doesn't have to be at the point the player is sold either, planning ahead is key. Unfortunately it can leave a lot of signings underwhelming.
