Yes it really was no surprise and I think its probably the right thing to do.

Better than putting someone like Southgate/Brooking in charge.

Why was Clever trevor even at the press conference?

Anyway, having watched the press conference it's quite clear that the CapelLOLz are pretty much all down to Chelsea for messing with the legal system and trying to string out the racist's trial long enough to get him off

Has anyone asked Harry if he wants the job?

I think he'd hate the lack of day to day involvement and the offensive press intrusion and criticism.

Pardew?

:D

You've got to laugh.

Barry the bird boggler Better record? Only because we have to play more games against crap opposition thanks to the idiot group sizes and more and more international dates to be filled. Take the record to the finals of a competion and it's worse as Ramsey has the World Cup win. And on top of it all the dreadful passionless performances we've being giving out make it seem so much worse.

As to the future, well I expect Pearce will be given the reins as caretaker while Redknapp is extracted from Spurs.

As to the job itself I'd go for Martin O'Neill or Steve Coppell above Harry Redknapp myself but then Coppell is a non starter as he wouldn't want the job and MO I think much prefers club football, it only really leaves 'arry. Wonder if El Tel would consider it again though....

Coppell is too emotionally fragile for the England job. We were lucky at Reading that we didn't see the flight response that Steve manifested at Man City and Bristol: you need a hide like a rhinoceros to be England manager--if you haven't got one, you cave (like Keegan).

That 4-1 defeat to Germany will live long in the memory, the worst knock-out performance I can ever remember. At least playing Portugal twice and Argentina we got close and lost on pens.

Had Lampard's goal stood, things could have been very different.

Gareth Barry's pathetic run to chase Mesut Ozil for the 4th goal will never leave me. What a pcunt.

He might fancy it short term, part time, just to take over till after the world cup. He'd still have the day-to-day involvement with Spurs to keep him busy. And it would give the authorites more time and flexibility to choose a long-term manager.

I don't want Harry, though. A right stench came off him during the trial; and in my opinion his activities at Portsmouth were detrimental to the game of football ... putting the club in hock in pursuit of glory, taking money out of transfer fees for his own profit, jumping ship whenever it suited him. Yes, the journos would make his life hell ... after all, there's no shortage of muck for them to rake over, going back a long way, some of which would start clinging to the name of England.

Indeed, it could have been 4-2 to Germany

Harry is 64 now, he's not going to be in management for much longer and so this is probably the only chance he will get to manage England - something he's always said he wants to do one day.

Rax .....please God - not Pardew - I don't think I'd be able to support England with that smug git in charge :(

On the plus side it would make a nice change for the manager to be banging the players wives rather than the captain.

Which manager banged the captain, then?

At last, proof today that Harry is a liar. He told reporters, "I haven't thought about the England job".

Whatever haoppens, the FA need to impose a policy of not selecting players that have been charged by the Police / CPS ? whatever legal body. That would bypass any future JT type furore and send a clear message to the players that behaviour on and off the field must be exemplary.

Whoever is the new manager has a shit job. Whatever he / she does will be villified by the press. I still say give the job to the hacks and let them take the flak.

The FA are apparenlty drawing up a 'Players Charter' as we speak (type). As I understand it that will be something the players have to sign up to when they represent England and will clearly define what is not acceptable and how they'll be treated if they transgrees.

I think it's not only been prompted by the behaviour of the footballers but also the egg chasers at the World Cup.

I think any reluctance is more likely to be from a lack of opportunity for clandestine money making through player transfers.
