WTF? Why?

Who else out there has a record to match Mick McCarthy in getting out of this division? I doubt Anton will be so confident in risking this season on a novice.

Zammo's havin' you on anyway.

Gibbs knows the way we currently play, and what is working at the moment........he knows the players, he knows the team.

16 games isn't long enough for a "new" manager to get us promoted by adopting their own style.

I'll be honest, I cannot believe he'll leave us with us in third place, but my source is utterly convinced so I thought I'd post it.

IF he goes then Coppell in until the end of the season, knows the players and ethos of the club he's had a good break and can hit the ground running.

Really just hoping this is just hype to get a new deal.

Zammo Just had an e-mail from a source.......

"I have it on VERY good authority that Brian McDermott is taking the Wolves job……"

No-one could fault him really. Bit of a kick in the goolies if true but we'll be there or there abouts still.

Mick McCarthy in please!!!

If Mick McCarthy comes in as manager i would rather retire from watching Reading until he gets sacked!! Would prefer Coppell of Lee Clark

Lee Clark? Huddersfield fans hated his style of football and felt he threw money away on very average players. Most are happy that he's gone.

I'd snap your neck to get Coppell back.

Libertine The Wolves owners are repeatedly on the record as not wanting a "novice" from the lower leagues to try to save them from relegation. Which I am sure they would view McDermott as in terms of being an experienced PL manager. Which is comforting as a Royals fan. I expect it to be Bruce, I hear he aced an interview with the owners.

but they only want him for the remainder of the season with a view to a perm deal if he keeps them up.........if Bruce doesn't, then he's just put another bad mark on his CV

But he is very interested in it isn't he? I guess the worry of a bad mark isn't that much of a worry then.

I think this would be a horrible professional move for Brian. If he is uncertain of his future with the club, because of the pending new owner, it would be far better for him to wait for a better job to open up than jumping on what appears to be a sinking ship called the Wolves. There is going to be a managerial merry go round at the end of the season in the PL. Redknapp, Wenger and Villas-Boas all probably moving on with people like Moyes and Coyle poised to move up the ladder. McDermott has to be considered one of the hottest young (in terms of experience) coaching talents in the UK. Even if he does not get a new deal with Reading FC he will most probably get a punt by some PL team based on what he has done here with a very limited budget up to this point. I would be gutted if he leaves and if he does it will take some of the shine off the new owner and cause me some doubt for our future prospects with the Russians at the helm. So he may move on but the Wolves would be a bad move for him imo...

Wolves aren't exactly a sinking ship though, they've got a great chance of staying up and even if they come down they'll have 4 years of parachute payments to help them get back up.

It's also a lot easier to keep Wolves up then it will be to get us up, that's why Wolves are 6/5 to stay up and we're 11/4 to go up.

If it just came down to the Wolves and Reading I could almost agree. What I am saying is he very probably could end up at an even bigger team than either of the aforementioned franchises. Maybe I am being harsh on the Wolves but I don't see it as being the ideal franchise for a move to right now unless you are a currently unemployed manager. My gut is saying to me that Brian will be staying, for now, and will be given an opportunity to move this club up by being given the monetary resources needed. If he fails to get results then I can see a parting of company. I could be wrong but I hope not...

I did used to wonder if his success here was due to him knowing many of the young players having managed them on the youth side before he took over as manager. But then I see how well he is doing when veteran players are brought in (Gorkss, Leigertwood, Roberts, etc) and it tells me he has what it takes to manage any club and isn't just down to having good long term relationships with the current crop of players he inherited.

McDermott is probably on poor wages ATM and may be offer 1M+ at Wolves

and that would at least make someone pause for thought.

He may also think that even if he got us up the new owners would bring in a name.
That would be OH so wrong, but not surprising.

He really does want to ask for a contract re-appraisal, some kind of guarantee, even if only financial
eg a 2 year or 3 year contract and a wage-hike maybe.

OTOH it's not impossible that the new owner started talking silly signings
and McD didn't like it.

Where are these rumours other than a WUM source?

Wolverhampton Wanderers have asked for patience as they continue their search for a new manager.

The club are believed to have offered the vacancy to Alan Curbishley last week, only for the former West Ham United boss to turn the role down.

Despite Curbishley's rejection, chief executive Jez Moxey recently insisted that the hunt for a new man was "going well".

Steve Bruce and Roy Keane have been linked with the hotseat this morning, but the club are refusing to comment on speculation.

"Manager search continues," the club tweeted. "Appreciate any frustrations about speculation etc and it's 24-7 news media age.

"But [the] board need to carry out the process diligently/in confidence. Jez updates when he can but can't provide running commentary on names."

Former Sunderland manager Bruce is the favourite to land the position with a number of bookmakers.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to put my foot down and say this would be unacceptable. That goes out to Moxey, Madejski, Zingarevich, McDermott, the lot of you. UNACCEPTABLE.
