Interest at just the right time for Brian. He can go and speak to Wolves and find out their vision and financial clout and then come back here and talk to Anton and find out what Reading are willing to do to keep him (1 year rolling deal remember). If Reading talk the talk and then stat walking it,he won't go to Wolves.

Downside to all this though is its not helping the build up for Middlesbrough.....

Our silence is a little worrying.

Rumours on Twitter saying we have approached Mick McCarthy in preperation for a replacement, just in case.

I'd be happy with that if we did have to lose McD.

Not sure how much legs this story has got, but it sounds like there's more to it than a few tweets from a dodgy local hack.

I do think it's a bit naive to think that McDermott wouldn't be interested in taking the Wolves job. They've got a very good squad of players, albeit in bad form, but are still just a few good results away from staying up. Turning them around isn't such a big job but getting us to win promotion is still a much bigger task.

His reputation now is untarnished and he's possibly never going to have as good a chance of managing a club of Wolves stature and/or in the Premier League. With the chance of going to Wolves comes, presumably, a much bigger contract than he's got here at Reading and also a then foot in the door at Premier League level (so the next Premier League job comes up and he might stand a better chance of getting it with Premier League experience). Considering the time he's spent on the lower paid jobs at the club I doubt he's set up for life yet. This could be the chance to give him and his family the security that staying Reading just won't, yet.

Staying at Reading would possibly give him greater satisfaction IF he managed to take us up. As well as we're playing, that's a bigger IF than keeping Wolves up.

As Wycombe said, this is just one of those things that happens. Success, or failure, brings about change and we can't expect to keep managers or players forever as that just doesn't really happen.

I have met Brian when I did some work for him in 2004. He was a genuine nice guy as you would expect.

However, it would be delusional for anyone on this forum to think that any manager or player has any loyalty to a club beyond their pay cheque. RFC gave Pardew his first chance but as soon as West Ham came offering to triple his salary (and that is about right BTW) he was off and so would any of you if that sort of thing happened to you. Ditto McGhee...

The only difference now is that, with the arrival of Anton, Reading could now compete with Wolves on the salary front if the board really want to keep Brian. Add to that the prospect of promotion this year and the further prospect of actually having money to spend to strengthen the squad in the summer and I would suggest that Wolves are a less attractive option than Reading, assuming they are both offering the manager a similar pay package.

If he does go, we may now be seriously able to attract Curbishly or similar. Football is a revolving door and the only constant is the fans and whilst i would prefer Brian to stay and finish what he started, money talks and talent walks. If Wolves offer to triple Brians salary and Reading won't match it, I would be amazed if he didn't go there.

Wolves fan at work is wondering why McD would take the job as best case scenario both teams will be in the championship next year

I just cannot see BM being the right man for Wolves just now.

Surely they'll be looking for an up and at 'em guy to kick arse and have a quick impact rather than a thoughtful / studious type who calmly observes before he makes his decisions. Maybe I read him wrong but BM is the 2nd type, right?

If they wanted the latter type then I'd have thought Adkins would have been in the frame - but again, he's absolutely not what they need right now.

Oh well, whatever will be will be.

So people would prefer someone like Curbishley if Brian went? I totally wouldn't, a mouse of a man.

Bring in Mick anyday.
