floyd__streete Well this is beginning to look like a done deal now isn't it. How very disappointing. Noted that the RFC media team have been very quiet with their usual John Craven's Newsround approach to RFC happenings, save an upate on Jem Karacan's birthday and the exciting news of a fund-raising night for the RFC chairball team on March 10th![]()
No-one would have touched McD before RFC gave him a chance, given his track-record for failure in non-league football (ask Woking fans how highly they rate him). He has been backed 100% by the fans throughout, so to leave two-thirds of a way through a season is pretty contemptible and rates him alongside McGhee and Pardew for me if this deal is sewn up.
The future? May as well promote from within for the remainder of the season - Gibbs and Dolan together pehaps - to try and keep the momentum going, rather than bring in someone else with new ideas at this stage.

TBM When McD goes i reckon Kevin Keegan would be ideal replacement.

cmonurzMmmMonsterMunchRoyal Lady On way home, BBC Berks said they had tried and failed to speak with RFC and WWFC - no-one would speak to them. Now, if nothing is going on, why on earth wouldn't RFC come out and say it's all rubbish - and why wouldn't McD tell the local media that he's not interested?
Exactly. Have to say I am a bit disappointed in Brian if this comes to fruition. He has finally started building something & fcuks off at the first opportunity despite clearly being backed in the Jan window.
Who do we go for then? My vote is Dolan - keep it in house.
Hypothetically, tomorrow, you are offered double your current salary with better job security, for a company in the same industry but with a bigger national profile.
What do you do?
Fans who expect Brian to have some 'loyalty' to Reading are deluded.

Royal Rother If it was anything like a done deal BM wouldn't be 2/1 against.

Focher well not having heard definately means talks have been ongoing between the clubs. Having spoken to people involved with the legal side of the potential takeover over the last week, and the fact that there is a good chance it won't happen (no house viewing bullshit here), perhaps Brian wants to jump ship before the shit hits the fan at RFC.
In our current position, i can't see anyone else but McDermott taking us forward, that team is pretty much his making and responds very well to his approach.
If i were a gambling man id say he won't be in charge for the next game, despite thinking in the last 24 hours this was a load of crap, its obviously not.

Snowball We should remember that the situation (still technically for Sir John M)
is that the club might want to match the Wolves money but would need
to have something in the contract to cover the take-over NOT happening.
eg. say Sir John signed McDermott up to 1.2 Million, 4 years and then the take-over failed,
and then we failed to go up?
Let's not also forget that if McD goes and we lose 3 from 4 the Russians might pull out...

I am realistic enough to know that there is a food-chain in football and that we are nowhere near the top of it. I also realise that there is no way McD can choose circumstances perfectly, but had a job come up in January offering him some cash to spend to take a side out of trouble I could fully understand his desire to go. Another top 6 finish with Reading (even if we failed in the play offs again) and his stock would be even higher, he would go with our best wishes because we would have a summer to rebuild.....as would he at his new club.
In these circumstances, if he goes, I won't be sad in the slightest if he fails.

MmmMonsterMunch Comeonurz - how the hell does he have more job security there? Sorry but that is utter bollox. The PL is far more cut throat than Div 1 & the fans will soon be on his back if he doesn't start getting results straight away. He will be under extreme pressure as they need to stay up.
If he failed to keep them up, I very much doubt he would stay on there. Plus he would then have the same budget constraints as he currently has - or pretty close to it.
And how do you know they will double his money? Its Wolves not Citeh FFS. They are hardly big spenders. The chairman's main aim is to get 17th every season.
