I still wonder if the problem is not the takeover happening, rather a big chance that it might NOT happen.

As far as I can see there's no substance in the Owen, Bullard and Hargreaves rumours, and certainly no evidence that AZ has in any way indicated that he wants to start pushing for his own playing staff...

If I were Brian I'd be most concerned about the potential for the whole thing to fall through - it'd leave him looking at another Summer of. Loth cutting, rebuilding the team etc, which is exactly the thing that he said he was looking forward to ending when the takeover happens.

Is it just possible that ge's recognised that there's a significant chance the deal won't go through, and that without promotion here, his chances of repeating his rebuilding feats of the last two seasons would be slim next year? With that in mind, him leaving now, at the top of his game with Reading would be utterly understandable. It's just possible that Hammond could be of a similar mindset, and fancies actually having some money to play with for a change...

There's a potential horror scenario, where McD and Hammond go (and possibly even Gibbs), AND the TSI deal falls through. We could then have no budget, no manager and no funds to replace him, our proven DoF gone with little chance of finding someone comparable to dig out turds which polish up well, and facing the annual cloth cutting during the Summer - that scenario is one that is potentially disastrous...

i can't see why we can't offer a new contract to mcdermott unless it means zingarevich wants to see the season out before deciding who leads the club.

Because the deal isn't signed and sealed....IF the TSI deal falls through, we could end up with McD on a deal we cannot afford....AZ isn't in a position to offer anyone anything, SJM still owns all of the club....

I had the same awful thought. Losing BM would be disappointing (he was a successful season away from becoming my favourite Reading manager ever). But if all else remained, we'd still be in a strong position. But him going and the club effetcively being rudderless (with Madejski's motivation to sort it out questionable at best) gives me the willies.

Don't go Brian. They'll never love you at Wolves.

Not relevant to this but as most people are on here I'll post it anyway.

Robert Green sent off and Wet Sham don't have a sub goalkeeper.

They're being clever there though by including both Wolves and Reading at the end............so either way they'll be right

LoyalRoyalFan I just can't see the logic behind McDermott going to Wolves.

Granted Wolves are a bigger club than ourselves, but he is leaving behind a legacy he could easily finish. We are 3rd in the table at the moment and he could lead us to the Premier League. He could follow in the footsteps of Steve Coppell and easily make himself a Reading legend.

Does he want to be remembered for a play-off final defeat? Or does he want to be remembered for being the 2nd manager to take Reading into the top-flight? He has worked with this club for 10 years and the club is in a very good position at the moment, why would he walk away?

The players obviously respect him and he clearly believes in the squad.

If someone was offering to double your wages for at least 3 years, you're saying you wouldn't consider going?

For money reasons, yes. Footballing reasons, no. Unfortunately it may be all down to money.

Footballing reasons, well for starters he'll get a crack at Premier League football, and potentially the only one he'll get.

He'll also be managing at a club with more resources, a better playing squad, more passionate fan base and in a decent enough position to stave off relegation if he has a positive impact.

If he stays here he currently has a pretty limited squad with half a chance of making it to the Premier League. Yes there may be more money on its way but it's not guaranteed and it doesn't sound like its going to be silly amount of cash made available.

I can see why he'd leave. Obviously there are compelling reasons to stay as well of course.
