If true it's good that AZ refused permission and wants him to stay

***MAD STAD UPDATE***

Had to pop there tonight and can confirm there was no-one of any interest lurking about, with only yellow traffic cones in McDermott's car parking space.

I don't care if it's rational or fair; I'll feel betrayed and let down if he leaves us now. Signed from Slough, given the chance as a manager, before jumping ship to a side in the PL relegation zone when we're in the best shape we've been in since 2006/7.

Don't know if those feelings are to the new board or McD though. I get the feeling McD would have only left the club for a great opportunity under the old regime, and with a heavy heart. I'm convinced he loves life at this club and loved our way of doing things under SJM. Now he's considering moving to a club who really are not many steps ahead of us; if McD stays we could very feasibly be ahead of them in a few months time. And there are rumours that Hammond will join him.

This would be a clear sign to me that we're no longer doing things the "Reading" way if it all came to happen. Something will have happened to bring about this move, or McD is far more short sighted than I judged him to be. And I thought our way of doing things with some sensible financial backing would be a great cocktail for success, so it would be a big disappointment to me if things begin to change quickly. The entire Madejski out brigade could quickly learn how wrong they were as we lose the stability that was the bedrock of our success in the past 20 years.

So please, please, please let this all be a rumour. Please don't let us become a wealthy club who chase after big name signings for the hell of it. Please don't let the new chairman get through managers like hot dinners. Please don't let us lose staff who have given us dedicated, successful service for 10-15 years. Please don't burst all the optimism when we were looking in a truly excellent position not just to go back up but stay there this time.

As far as I'm concerned AZ currently has no stake in RFC and therefore has no powers to refuse permission to anyone. All he can do is voice his thoughts and hope Brian and SJM do as he says. Hence more bs.

So they're negotiating compensation then....

Can anyone name a manager for whom "denying permission to talk" ever resulted in them staying on?

BBC Berks have an article

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17115828

But every time the Reading boss is asked about the Royals' new ownership plans,
bringing in Anton Zingarevich to take control from longstanding chairman Sir John Madejski,
he visibly recoils.

While he says enough to avoid ruffling feathers, he has been far from gushing and
looks keen to move the conversation on to other topics. "I don't make quick judgements
on anyone. If he's good for the club, he is good for me," was McDermott's luke-warm
response to the announcement.

Point of order, this should be in the Team, :|

There is no rumour or unfounded gossip, he has definitely been talking to Wolves. He may or may not jump.

Maybe he doesn't want to get everyones hopes up until its signed or doesn't want to bring AZ in to the limelight too much

Well that makes it sound like Wolves approached McDermott, made an offer and it is his decision to make. And the Wolves are also in the market for a DoF. With Reading FC "hopeful" they can hold onto McD.

Slightly more than hopeful, it says RFC "expect" him to reject it, and are "confident" he'll stay.

*clutching at straws*

The story on the main football page of the Guardian used the word "hopeful" in the title even though in the article it is described as "quietly confident". Which tells me Wolves made an offer, we made a counter offer, still good but a bit less generous, and it is up to Brian whether he will jump for the additional money or stay for a bit less out of loyalty. I think we're all gonna have to sleep on it just like Brian is...and try to be as "hopeful", or quietly confident, as the club is.

*fingers crossed*
