Reading between the lines it still seems to me like we're not quite out of the woods.

McDermott may have agreed a new deal but it doesn't seem that it's signed sealed and delivered yet does it? That's probably just a case of completing the finer details but it still leaves the door ajar for something else to happen.

I feel pretty confident that he's staying, but experience tells us not to get too carried away until it's all sorted.

Interesting that the players have been given a day off today (not sure if that was planned or not) and that they're apparently in the dark as much as us punters. That can't be too good in the build up to such a big game at the weekend.

Can't really see that McDermott has done a lot wrong here.

Wolves let a squeak out that they were interested and Fordham plastered it all over every media source he could find.

McDermott met AZ and said he would like to stop at Reading but feels he has earned the right to be on better wages.

AZ agreed

3.5 year deal signed.

I still don't get why he'd agree a new 3.5 year deal when, according to sandman, he was perfectly happy with the 1 year rolling contract that he signed previously and didn't want anything more than that.....

Just means when Wolves come in for him we get more in way of compensation.

was happy with a 1 year rolling deal under the Madejski regime when he felt safe in his job, might not feel so safe with TSI.

I hope Fordham is right this time.

Huge odds to Lay against McDermott if this story is true.

Or, was happy with his previous deal when he was aware that the club could not afford a more lucrative contract, and now with TSI coming in this is no longer the case.

Or of course, given AZ's KGB background, when Wolves asked if they could talk to Brian he was instructed to go down there to talk...

...and find out what their plans are- who they target, their budgets...all very good info given that we are likely to be in the market for the same sort of players...

As for the talk of NH being a target- I would be very very surprised if most clubs wouldn't want him given some of the deals he has put together here. If AZ really does share SJM's views on careful planned and cautious investment, the last thing he is going to want is to lose the guy that is responsible for putting the deals together that have kept us afloat.

"And prospective new owner Anton Zingarevich was so keen for Royals’ boss to stay, that sources told the Reading Post the Russian’s 51-per-cent buyout of the club would have been in jeopardy had McDermott decided to leave."
