jonny fordham on the defensive on twitter, biting back at someone after claiming he was spot on and now all other media are using his story.. that guy really grinds with me. one minute mcdermott was in talks with wolves, then it was the next day instead, then today he never had permission to talk to them, and then the contract - the contract the club told him about but to wait for today to release the news. cretin.

Schards#2
Silver Fox Can everyone stop sucking soggy's dick please? He said Brian signed yesterday, the official site clearly confirms he signed today

'greed, took a shot in the dark and, if he was wrong, it's not like many people don't think he's a berk already anyway.

i can vouch for him. his source was the same as fordham's. we both heard similar stories. sb posted his and was spot on.

Well, this news has certainly brightened my evening! I was seriously thinking he was off. I love him as much as Sir Steve Coppell now. 8)

and hopefully those getting the jitters about tsi pulling out can feel more at ease. in a months time it'll all be done and dusted. zingarevich looks very pleased to be here, not to mention enthusiastic; and with Kebe and now Brian signing long-term deals, you can see he is determined to keep our best, and bring in the best (at the right price of course). this club is moving forwards again, and it feels fantastic after years of feeling deflated and beaten, wondering where the direction had gone. if anything i don't think i've ever felt so assured about where we're going. it's very exciting.

melonhead sheesh- was only joking

but now I realise you are actualy RattLOLed afterall

I could/should have been more succint really:

I was wrong to say it looked like a done deal.
I was not wrong - imo - to say it would have been contemptible to walk out in those circumstances.

by dignifying my nonense with responses at all, you only increase the appearance of rattLOLedness

while i would have been upset- contemptible is too strong.imo

By responding with nonsense to my nonsense responses, you only appear to be rattLOLed by my rattLOLedness 8)

Contemptible too strong? Perhaps. Reading fans have been let down by managers twice in the past, I don't need to name names of course but on neither ocassion in the past was the timing quite as lousy as it would have been now. That would have deserved some contempt I reckon, but its win-win now - McD gets his (deserved) better terms and RFC keep the man who has masterminded the resurgence. The only losers are Wolves 8)

This is becoming a joke!! there are very few managers out there worth replacing Mick and they are all not the least bit interested!!! I'll do it for a fraction of the wage Jez!!!! then the rest of the money you can put towards the new stadium that we won't ever fill!!!!

Focher just seen someone that looks very much like McDermott pulling onto the A404 at Burchetts Green towards High Wycombe, at some speed too. Probably on his his way to the M40 northbound.

At the risk of my second whoooosh in two days, he was probably on his way home seeing as he lives in Bourne End or Marlow (can't remember which).

DOYLERSAROYALER this has been great PR for the club ... in that BM is being seen as a potential Prem level manager, and with him now staying, that can only help the club attract top players to the club ..

I am finding this whole thing to be very well played by the club. Creates a buzz...with the fans and, like you point out, with the players. I am betting (hoping) it gets some of the plastics attention and gets more arses in seats.

There was no way they weren't going to sign him. They knew it, he knew it and AZ knew it. It was orchestrated for the drama using the people close to the club in the press expertly for message while the club went into official radio silence...even the players. They could have diffused this by saying early on "no permission" to talk to him had been given. And they didn't. They intentionally made it look ominous and they all come off looking like heroes as they stood up to a Premier League club looking to raid us. It makes Brian look good because of a PL club being interested in him (which Wolves were but were never gonna get him) and him staying with the club out of loyalty (which we all deep inside knows he is/and will be as long as he keeps getting treated as fairly as he has). Makes the club look good by not selling when a "bigger" team came a calling and we're no longer "Little Reading". If you come for our personnel you will not get them without a fight. And finally it makes AZ look good with McD's comments in the aftermath that it was the pending chairman's words which convinced him to stay and hinting at it could have put the deal in jeopardy if Brian left, cementing a bond between the new chairman and our very popular with the fans manager. Good will and positive buzz abounds!!! This couldn't have played out better if it all was scripted. :D

Or it could have all come down to circumstance. Just luck...the way the chips happened to fall in this case.

Either way it just was very well played... 8)

I think the club played it spot on.

Lots of rumour flying around, most of which turned out to be untrue. Why come out and say anything, we've done that before and it's bitten us on the arse.

McDermott says he hasn't talked to Wolves and Wolves have said nothing to the contrary.

Nigel Howe states that he had an enquiry from Wolves but told them that the manager was in the middle of contract negotiations but would let them know if anything changed.

There were probably only half a dozen people that knew exactly what was going on all through this saga. Let's not forget that our negotiations and press conferences no longer just involve asking SJM to get his chauffeur to drive him down to the stadium.

Anton would have been consulted throughout and pretty much known what the outcome would be. I'm sure he would have wanted Samuelson 'the face of TSI' there.

BR2 I think this could all be one big ruse.
Our chairman announces that Brian has signed a new contract, the new owner completes the deal and we get the normal "This is a sign of Reading's ambition blah,blah,blah............................."
Brian might know that Maurice Evans got the sack when we were 3rd in the league-different times, different chairman but like Maurice and Lee at Huddersfield there is not always loyalty shown by a club towards it's employees.
A precarious job at the best of times and from our point of view it would be sad to see him go but if Wolves offer him relatively big money and a reasonable term of contract it would be quite understandable for him to go.

When I first started watching football Wolves were just about the biggest club in the country (IIRC a crowd of over 80,000 v a Russian side?)and had a number of players in the England side.
They are far from that standing these days but have a fairly wealthy owner and are currently (just about) in the Premier League and are planning a ground extension whereas we have an unknown potential new owner and at best this season will possibly make the play-offs.
A chance to be a hero at Wolves by keeping them up and presumably earn considerably more money or stay where it is all about what might be.

His own star is very bright at the moment and nobody could blame him for cashing in as that star dims very quickly (think of Keane,Curbishley,Jewell etc.)and it doesn't take long in football to go from hero to zero.

A few hours later.........
I think it is good news and from Brian's perspective it is very good news because financially he is now o.k for 3 years during which time anything could happen to our club.
As far as our club is concerned let us hope that the Russians are more Abramovich orientated rather than like the Eastern Europeans at Pompey and Hearts.
Time will tell.
