I would be surprised if BMcD did not have a clause in his contract regarding approaches from PL clubs. Hence, no reason why he would not want to talk to WW to see what they had to say. The fact he has chosen to sign an improved contract speaks volumes for TSI, SJM and the future of RFC.

Or what WWFC offered him! 13 week contract at not much money maybe?!

Well he says he didn't talk to them.

- He clearly didn't travel to Wolves for an interview as such as there would be no way he would make this statement as it is too easy to prove wrong.
- Howe was asked about contact (didn't seem rehearsed) and he described the phone call with Moxey.

(In my opinion) the only thing that might have happened in addition to what the club has said is that McD's agent may have spoken to Wolves. The truth of the matter and the delay, I suspect will simply be that McD's agent and the club were negotiating on the payment terms of the contract - from what McD said his agent is 'good' so I suspect he took a bit of pain to get a good deal for his client.

Perhaps that joke story about it being offered on a work experience basis is true...

And shows how highly the club rates BMcD otherwise there would be no new contract.

To be honest, I think that he wasn't getting paid very much (relatively), the contract he was on he was given when he was completely unproven.

In two years he's shown he's a capable manager, this should have been done in the summer after he got us to the play off final really but I guess the club lacked the cash.

Also I don't know if anyone else noticed last night, pretty much confirmation that there is more than just Anton at TSI. It's a consortium, which suggests plenty of backing beyond Antons cash.

I wonder if Smee is involved I'd heard he wanted to get involved again but couldn't do it on his own.

i think he said "See that bloke sitting next to me at the Burnley game? He used to work for the KGB, and he really isn't pleased to see you - that's a gun in his pocket!!"

We know we've got yet another excellent manager on our hands, the third to be given his first chance by the Chairman who, supposedly, knows little about football :| but on this occasion the man in charge of Wolves "feeder" club backed us rather than those black country scumbags, who are deservedly struggling to find a decent replacement for the very decent man they sacked.............................oh how I hope Bruce, too, declines the insulting way they have dealt with his application :|

My guess is that Brian's new deal means he will give us until the end of next season to get promoted before seriously considering other offers but even now he's worthy of better than anything Wolves could have put on the table.

Nice one, Brian.

Z175 He obviously talked to wolves, hence the speculation, and hence the official news today. We probably made it clear we would make a counter offerand probably he was allowed to talk to keep him sweet. Whether he would have gone or was just benchmarking who knows. But certainly wolves, reading and McDermott won't admit he talked to them and turned it down..

obviously

So happy that this has been done obviously. Would have been gutting to lose him and probably put the project back at least 2 years.

To be honest I think he was going to be offered, or should have been anyway, a new long term deal like this in the summer regardless, just the Wolves interest made the club act faster.

I look at that the other way - the more people involved, the more this is seen as an investment, which means a return may be expected.

Agreed Woodcote. Just don't see all the cynical / hidden agenda stuff - the public story seems pretty straightforward. He was on a lower contract, given the history of how he was given the job, upgrading his contract was already under consideration since the new funding, the Wolves approach focussed everyone's minds, and a good deal was done. (The only confusion seems to be the erroneous / mischievous reporting that he had spoken to Wolves on Monday which wasn't actually what had happened, and the betting odds gave the story a life of its own.)

See you at the Riverside Saturday ?

He signed an improved contract at about this time last year but it stayed as a rolling one year deal.

But we knew that already? In Samuel's interview he said there were other backers but they want to remain unknown for now.

+1

In addition I'd add that of all the signings the club has made since TSI's involvement became known, this one is the single most important.

Whatever contact was, or was not made, on his behalf, McD would have been no less aware of the interest in him than the rest of us..................so who cares frankly (other than our resident wrist slitters who need 3 reasons a day to top themselves :P ) he's nailed himself to the mast of good ship RFC.

Sadly, I won't be making this particular trip "oop north" (once was enough because even flying involves an overnight stay :P ) but the very best wishes to you and yours.
