791 minutes

by Super Kevin Bremner! » 18 Feb 2012 08:49

I make it 380 odd minutes since we conceded a goal now. Starting to get memories of the great run we had with Upson in the side where it was something like 790 odd minutes. At that time however it felt like that run was ALL about Upson. This time it seems better with Gorks, Pearce and Federici all really really decent in their own way without being quite as dynamic as Upson was individually.

The 2002/3 back 5 was Hahnemann, Murty, Williams, Upson and Shorey.

Connolly is getting better, and seems like Harte has stepped up a gear too

Agreed about Connolly last night. He's not playing in his best position though I dont think. He just looks like an out n out centre back.

Back 5 all REALLY good today. Jutkewiecz shoulda have probably done better with his header and Robson maybe could have hit his shot better but I think that was about it.

Damn straight. If we'd conceded fewer goals in the last five games we could be challenging for promotion...

Someone should tell Harte not to run around so much after scoring - at his age he could lead to a harte attack

I can see us continuing like this to the end of the season.

When it comes to defending you don't just become bad over night! It's a discipline that is completely different to attacking. If we can keep picking up 1-0 wins that's perfect.

The only thing stopping us is injuries and suspensions!

Attacking is a more complex discipline to succeed in. The more attacking teams will come and go (form) throughout the remainder of the season, whereas Reading will just mull away in the background being the efficient and effective unit they are!!

Regarding injuries and suspensions:

Is there a correlation between success/failure and yellow.red cards?

I may be way off beam but we seem to be attracting fewer cautions as our success continues.

In our championship winning season we didn't get a single red card.

Am I right in saying that since the first time Pearce and Gorkss played together this season, neither have missed a game since?

Sonko and Ivar played every single game too.

This seems incredible, but I think I'm right in saying that neither Sonko nor Ingimarsson had a yellow card all season.

Teams have had chances against us though, so we only have to come up against a clinical finisher in form or someone who gets a bit lucky with a shot and we'll conceed. Austin missed an absolute sitter only last week for example.

I'm not saying the defence isn't very good or mean btw, just that we will conceed a goal sooner or later. And lose a match.

It's also 9 clean sheets in past 12 league games. Should be 10 as that last goal was offside anyway! And the one before that was an OG, and the one before that was in the cup...

The last legitimate league goal we conceded to an English team was 12 games ago on 2 December!

Millwall seem pretty lethal though...
