Think hes a bit like Tommy Smith in the fact that he couldn't/can't cut it out in the Prem yet you put him in the Championship he will play for fun.

He was only 22/23 when he left Villa and has, from what I've seen, added a lot to his game since then. He's played left back and now central midfield since his days Premier League days when I think he was mainly used as a winger.

I'd quite like to see him at Reading as he's technically very good, something that I think we lack a bit in our midfield at times. He'd also be a decent replacement for Harte's set piece delivery if he's eased out of the side due to his lack of pace.

We may be aiming our sites a little higher though.

Quality left foot with a great delivery just what we are going to need in the Premiership.

Sign him up.

Fully approve of this signing. I'm sure he's been on everyone's radar for a while now, class player.

Nonsense. As if both clubs have sat down...ironed out all the paper work and are simply waiting for Cardiff to fail in the play-offs to complete it.

You've said a few things like this now. You don't seem to think clubs discuss player availability until the close season, but of course they do. Enquiries are made all the time, it's only the transfer window's that are in place, not a rule to stop clubs speaking to one another.

gazzer, loyal royal is one of the most reliable sources on here, so if he's heard this then there's almost certainly something in it.

do you think a club would discuss offloading their best player when they are in the build up to a play-off campaign? pretty sure their response would be " we'll address this at the end of the season when we know what league we'll be in".

I'd expect a club to plan for every eventuality accordingly and not risk missing out on some essential income because of delaying talking about the possibility until they know they've failed. I wouldn't expect the paper work to be done, or Whittingham to have necessarily had more than a quick chat with us... but there's no reason that a gentleman's agreement for the transfer to be on and how much for not to be in place.

as i said a different source to my usual one, but Chelsea just signed that german fellow during the season. It goes on behind the scenes a lot. We can only wait until a window opens to register a player, but not make enquiries

Anton said they've been looking at players for over a month now, so does it really surprise you if a deal isn't done for someone?

And isn't that what gazzer has said? If they don't go up it looks like a done deal.

Whittingham is in a similar position to Long last summer. He's their stand-out player and wants to step up. They managed to keep him there for another season after last seasons play-off failure, and now they will let him leave 'for the right price' if they fail to go up again.
