My only hope is that we do our business early so that we can start the season in game 1, not game 7 as we've done the last 2/3 years.

We need a big player IMO to add that little bit of extra quality. Roberts is probably on much higher wages than any else and he's hardly upset the squad so the ethos of not paying anyone a significant amount more than the other lads should now be gone for ever. I'm not sure what my pointing but there you go.

Why not? can play left back and left wing where we don't have a natural left footer. I wouldn't spend much on him like I said but there was a reason two clubs wanted to take him back to the prem, he's got enough quality and his work rate fits our team. 2 million is peanuts in this day and age and hes got a good whack of prem experience.

Is this another obvious joke?

Injury prone and acted like a twat in our second premier season last time. No thanks.

Kingsley Junior
sandman Or his son plays for the Academy so he was watching the game that was closest to him.

More specifically his son received an award - I'm assuming scholar of the year or similar, couldn't hear/didn't care enough to listen - so I guess he was there to watch that primarily.

Does more than one person win that? cos the son of someone I work with won that for the 16s.

I dont understand the obsession of some with getting players with 'premier league experience' in.

I would say with Roberts and Harte we have plenty, Harte has played a Champions League Semi Final ffs!

As written elsewhere on HNA?, Norwich and Swansea did not go out and get that type of player, they identified players from the Championship and below, Europe, or youngsters from prem sides(Caulker for instance), who would bolster their squad, improve their first team a little, would be fairly cheap, and who have the hunger to prove themselves in the prem

Thats what we should do to. Ok so we MIGHT have a bit more money when the Russian's are cleared to buy us, but I still think we should follow our strategy of buying predominately lower league players with a point to prove. Its just now we could maybe afford a Rhodes instead of a Le Fondre for instance

And people writing off Harte are being a little short sighted, yes he will be outpaced on occasions, but I dont remember the pacey Zaha skinning him too often last Saturday, in fact, since he got back in the side I can't remember him being exposed too often at all. And what he gives us going forward with his crosses and dead balls will be crucial in the Prem

I seem to remember that in 2006/07 we did not really have any players with "premiership experience" - I think that team did ok

I suspect that premiership experience is not all is cracked up to be

There are three "overall" awards, one for goalkeepers and two more that are quite vague (usual stuff like club spirit and such). Niall Keown won one of the two. I don't think any of our current lads won the awards. There might also be age-specific awards but they aren't presented publicly.

^ I've been thinking the same - strongly suspect that Harte will be our 1st choice LB next year

Mate of mine on twitter who I assume posts on here is confident we're close to agreeing a deal for Mariappa of Watford (CB). He turned down Wigan in Jan and there was interest from Newcastle.

Just another wait and see.

I'd be happy with that though. A typical Reading signing.
