So TBM - are you categorically saying Long went for 4.5m or 6.5m or are you just hashing up a load of old bollocks from web sites and tabloids?

Confusion reigns.

The figure I heard was £3.75m rising to £5m.

Sorry I upset you re the Arsenal v Wigan game but surely your bant can be better than that?!

All I did was provide links saying Long went for a deal worth up to £6.5m. If its wrong then that's hardly my fault.

Every semi-reliable source I've heard it from has said it was less than £4million up front and no more than four and a half in total with any add-ons so I'm inclined to believe Friday's Legacy's figures.

Every transfer we make is suffixed by JM coming out and saying we "didn't get the figure the papers are saying."

Don't hear much from the club who bought the player speaking out against the supposedly incorrect figure.

JM speaks as much sh/te as the papers, to be fair.

That's what i thought - plus why make it a disclosed fee and then start talking about it :?

tbf he only talked about it in that interview after he was pissed off (his words) with the 'wheres the money gone' chants. I think he must of had a clause in his contract that meant we weren't in much of a position to negotiate as he went to the first premier league club that put a bid in, I think when he signed that contract he hadn't scored in open play all season and we were floating around midtable mediocrity so we probably didn't value him as highly as we would have done the summer he left.

I believe our policy is always to agree an amount we'll let a player go for when they sign a contract... As you say, at the time he signed a new contract Long had achieved bugger all to make him him particularly valuable. It was only his 6 month goal bonanza that would have pushed his value up into the multi-millions and I doubt he'd have been too happy to put at risk a Prem move by letting us try and hold out for a really big fee, although I'd be surprised if he wasn't willing to go above what was in his contract so Reading got a reasonable amount.

All speculation obviously.

I vaguely recall Hodgson alluding the touted price for Long was higher than what they actually paid.

So when Sigurdsson signed (pro) in 2007 we whacked a £6m release fee on?

I 'm not sure clauses came into it - we needed as much cash as we could get in for them.

I think with Sigurdsson we were just holding out for the biggest fee - which came from Hoffenheim on the final day. 1-0 to Reading FC brinkmanship.

With Long same goes, we demanded £10m. Then said we'd talk at 6m. Then towards the end with Brian wanting to get signing players we took the c4m amount. 1-1 in the brinkmanship stakes.

As discussed at length both times we needed to sell to pay the wagebill, and both players were inevitably going to end up in top tier football, so was just a matter of trying to squeeze the fee.

All my opinion of course, but when you need to sell for financial reasons its hard to say £10m take it or leave it.

Burnley have today rejected TWO bids from Premier League teams, one was a straight up offer for him and the other was a deal also involving Kieran Trippier included. However Burnley DO expect them both to be Premier League players next season

But you started off by stating long went for 6.5 million, possibly rising to 8.

You then quote a number of articles quoting various figures.

And a big LOL to my being upset at that. Its what makes football such a fantastic sport where two people can watch the same game and have two completely differing opinions. Happy to agree to disagree with all this and move on..........

Errrr no I didn't, re-read!

I said Longs deal was worth up to 6.5m* so Rodriguez deal being worth up to 8m is not unrealistic
