M Brook
lowerwestjnr Seriously this Rhodes bollocks can fcuk off, he isn't good enough.

Agree. Sure he can score goals (in the third division) but he doesn't appear to do much else. If you could guarantee 40+ goals a season in the Prem then that would be a luxury any team could justify but Prem defences are much, much sharper than L1 defences. The Champ may well be his limit. To succeed in the Prem he would need to be a far, far better all round player.

How many of them have there been then?!

Holt puts himself about a lot more than Rhodes does.

The same Holt, who played in the same team coming up through the leagues, and has built up a partnership with the Norwich midfield, rather than being brought into a league 2 divisions higher than he had played before?

Just for reference:

Holt in League 1: 24 league goals
Rhodes in League 1: 38 league goals + 2 in playoffs

But no chance of making it if he has to play with a different midfield.... :|

In 49 games in the Championship, Holt scored 24 League goals, in 10 games, Rhodes scored 1. Holt has a hit rate of just over 1 in 2, Rhodes has a hit rate of 1 in 10. Stat fail indeed.

At the prices quoted I'd rather see us attempt to resign Gylfi or Long.

You mean those 10 subs appearances he made between the ages of 17 and 18 and half..........great comparison.

It was actaully about 140 minutes of Championship football that he played for Ipswich.

Indeed. Let's compare apples with apples please.

The only equal comparison between the 2 players is a full league season in League 1.

Do you really want to dig up Holt's stats from when he was 18?

talking to my Huddersfield m8 earlier and McDermott was there again last night. He says all the talk up there is that they are resigned to losing Rhodes and it will be to a Premiership club, and they're all confident it's Reading. Rumours been building up there for weeks.

They're saying £4m.

worth a gamble?

...maybe with add-ons etc...but not a straight £4m...talented player but still a gamble

All substitute appearances, all before he was 20. Your effort is snowballspackstatistictastic.

Reported in the highly respected and reliable Daily Mirror that Fulham look to have won the race for his signature ahead of Norwich, Aston Villa and West Ham.

Reported fee of 3.5m. No mention about any interest from us.

Probably the usual space filling tabloid crap, but make of it what you will.

Rhodes costs some money.

We are only interested in players who don't cost money.

McDermott has been told to forget Rhodes and Gylfi, and to look on Gumtree or Freecycle to find his players.

Roberts, Cywfka, Mullins, Connolly, McCleary....

Not really much evidence of a massive transfer kitty thus far in fairness. Still a massive step up from selling players to cover the wagebill though.

Based on last season, even the bottom team would get at least 37 million each season in TV rights alone:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/premier-league-teams-to-receive-record-tv-pay-out-2281482.html

What I want to know is when will the money start coming in so we can spend some, will it be in dribs and drabs throughout the season? This, of course, excludes any additional sponsorship that'll be coming our way along with takeover money when/if it eventually happens. If the takeover doesn't happen, surely Madjeski has learnt from last time when we had something like 49 million profit that the amount of money coming in > the wages + transfer fees so will know it is wise to invest to make the club a sustainable premiership side?

So to spend money on the likes of Rhodes, Sigursson etc now seems to me like a no-brainer, with a goal to aim for mid table (maybe thats why I live in my overdraft?!)

Not the case. I think you'll see our transfer record broken this summer...

Church will probably fall on it while warming up for our first game.
