Friday's Legacy I don't believe for one minute we'll get him. Ignore the top 6 clubs and the 3 newly promoted clubs, and there would be 11 clubs he could have his pick of. I just don't see a player of his calibre opting for newly promoted Reading over an Aston Villa, Everton, Fulham, Swansea etc. But at least we seem to be aiming high. Who knows, football is a fully old game sometimes.

not sure I rate him tbf. I might be wrong but what is it that he can do?

He'd do a few flicks, pose a bit, frustrate the hell out of everyone, disrupt the dressing room, take his wages and get badly injured in October.

No thanks, not for us.

One reason this is a load of old cobblers is that Liverpool have no manager currently and therefore Liverpool have no clue as to wether Joe Cole is in their future plans or not.

We could still enquire about a player, then get told they would need to discuss it with the new manager once we've appointed someone. Doesn't necessarily mean theresno interest because there's no manager at LIverpool atm.

I wonder why he moved to france when English football fans appreciate his ability so much

It seems in this country if a player is not running around like a headless chicken and kicking lumps out of people then we don't know what to do with them! In most countries around the world the national team would've been based around someone with Coles ability but we stick with 4-4-2 and shove him out on the wing and hope for the best! He is the best technical football player since Gazza.

19 Starts (Subbed Off 12 Times) 14 Sub Appearances = 1,706 Minutes for 4 Goals Ligue 1
05 Starts (Subbed Off 05 Times) 01 Sub Appearances = 0,386 Minutes for 0 Goals Champions League
02 Starts (Subbed Off 01 Times) 00 Sub Appearances = 0,079 Minutes for 2 Goals Coupe de la Ligue
02 Starts (Subbed Off 02 Times) 01 Sub Appearances = 0,061 Minutes for 3 Goals Coupe de France

28 Starts (Subbed Off 22 Times) 16 Sub Appearances = 2,433 Minutes for 9 Goals @ 1 Goal every 270 Minutes

Seems to have been brought off a lot, but 1 goal in 270 minutes for a midfielder is very good

Also had 5 assists

3 Goals in the cup were a hat-trick against some rubbish side

Was going to say looks a real possibility, but think maybe he's spent?

Much better than at Liverpool. There was serious talk in France of him making the England squad. Lille also have Hazard so he isn't the main man, but he has had a very good season.

There's a comment on the thread about the Palace friendly about some fans getting a bit too big for their boots already, and now on UR&G there are separate threads where some fans have decided that Michael Owen and Joe Cole wouldn't improve this side.

They won't be Reading players next season because they are so far out of league it's almost funny. On the tiny, tiny chance that they were to join Reading, they would be the biggest signings in our history.

It doesn't simply follow that because a player was once world-class
and is still very, very good, that he would AUTOMATICALLY improve
our TEAM.

If we play 4-4-2, for example, where would Joe Cole play?

Could we cope with just two midfielders if one gets in a lot less tackles?

Would signing Joe Cole mean we'd have to switch to 5 across the midfield?

etc

Owen would, IMO, be a mistake. Of course he MIGHT still get 10+ Prem goals, but how
likely is it he would fit our hard-working team-ethic, how would the other strikers
feel being pushed out by "a washed-up once-star" (if they saw him like that)

We know building a side is not simply a case of getting better players

Joe Cole would probably play in the hole. Just because we've played 4-4-2 this season, doesn't mean we will continue to play it and its the best way for us to be set up. We've been a decent sized fish in the Championship pond. In the Prem we're small fry and we can't try and pretend we can compete with most of the teams on an even footing.

We're actually set up very well in style to operate like an away team all season, soaking up pressure and hitting on the break with pace. That's where someone like Cole, Sigurdsson, Whittingham playing as an attacking midfielder behind a lone striker would work. And it gives us the option to then switch to 4-4-2 later in games when teams are tiring. A tactic McDermott has previously used to great affect with us.

If we're talking about team ethic and morale, if you asked the likes of Church and Le Fondre if they would welcome the chance to work with Michael Owen, you'd only get one answer.
