SPECULATION - John Carew

by bracksroyal10 » 23 May 2012 13:59

Just been released by West Ham. Getting on a bit with his age now however he has been there and done it in the prem before. Might offer something a little different to what we already have with his height and strength up front. His style of play will create a lot of chances for players around him given he is playing to the top level of his game.

Might be a bit of a gamble but would much rather take a chance on him then captain cripple Owen!

Why sign someone that was deemed not good enough by a side that also got promoted?

Not a case of him not being good enough look at all the strikers West Ham have their squad is huge. Would give us a different option to what we have up front wouldn't you agree?

Wouldn't pay a fee for him but for all the experience he has I reckon he would be a very good free signing for us. Wasn't that long ago that he was one of Villa's most influential players when they were challenging up the top half of the league.

No I don't agree he would give us any other option, than that we already have with Jason Roberts, they are the same type of player.

In a way I can see what you are saying and I wouldn't see them playing together if he ever did come it would have to be one or the other. On the other hand however if Roberts isn't in the team then who do we have up front with an obvious physical presence? Don't get me wrong I think Noel Hunt and Alfie are more than capable of cutting it but I think they need someone like Roberts to play with in order to get opportunities to score.

Can hardly envisage Mathieu Manset playing a part next year but then again I have seen stranger things happen

Yeah, we aren't going to improve on Roberts' heading ability.

Has Manset scored a goal in China yet?

If we didn't have Jason I'd say it might be worth a punt, if the price is right that is. But imho I think we need a younger, faster, more athletic player (which Carew isn't at this point) to be the foil for Jason with his ability to effectively hold the ball up. There have to be much better options out there for that role other than Carew...

No thanks...

He's really not that bad. It all went down hill when he left villa on loan, then perm, but before he moved he was doing pretty well. Could have just been a bad couple of seasons. I think we can do better, however, if we offload Manset and Church, then he could be worth a cheap punt as some back-up if he could show a bit of his old form.

Yeah, as much as I like parky and he speaks some sense usually, this is a bit bobbins - they are not the same type of player.
