ZacNaloen Grasping at a comment out of context perhaps but it seems Lawson D'ath met someone called Joey Cole today... or at least his daughter.

Dunno if its been mentioned but David Gold keeps retweeting West Ham fans' positive comments about Joe Cole on Twitter and all the tweets begging him to sign Cole

melonhead LOL at RFC not wanting joe cole

Exactly, but why would they need him when they have such proven Premiership players as Hal Robson Kanu, Jobi McAnuff and Jay Tabb?

If this Reading squad was say Sheffield Utd's and they'd just won the Championship with it, I think most on this forum would be LOLzing at the thought of them in the Premiership and the complete lack of quality throughout it. Just saying.

Not saying Reading won't buy anyone, that's not my point. They will buy players without doubt.

I find it hilarious that some folk would actually think Joe Cole wouldn't be a billion times better than anything Reading have or have had. I agree with cmonurz, if they signed someone like that it would be the biggest signing in the clubs history by miles.

The other point was as a group and as a team they did outstandingly well last season not denying that but player for player I don't think they are that strong. When Sheffield Utd went up with Reading last time, everyone went through their group and new signings(which included a certain Leigertwood) and everyone thought they weren't good enough for the Premiership. I see similarities between their group, also QPR's group of last season and this Reading group. It has a very Championship feel to it. Obviously that could change in the next few weeks.

Would rather see Kebe, Jobi, Hal and McCleary play on wings, to see if they can cut it. Who knows, maybe Kebe and Jobi will be better? Cole would be the biggest signing, but so would Pele and Maradona. Does not mean they would be any good these days

I repeat - it's 29th May.

It has a very Championship feel to it because it's largely only McLeary in/Griffin out different to last season

Post again if we reach 1st July without adding some quality - better still, wait until 1st August.

Sorry - forgot.

We've got money now so we should have spent a couple of billion in the hours since the deal

Why would you prefer to see Hal on the wing than Joe Cole?

If we did sign Cole, I'd like to see him play behind the main striker as an AM and leave the wings to Kebe and Jobi.

I read a few reports that he did. I'm sure he did for Chelsea on the odd occasion and did well. And didn't he do it for England once, or was that just pundit/fan/media suggestion?

There's little doubt that Cole would be the best player ever to play for the club but he would not be right for RFC right now.

In 2 years... maybe yes, but not now.

And, not that anyone is taking it seriously (I hope) but he wouldn't come here unless we had 5 or 6 players of similar profile / wages which would be totally against everything TSI have said about the philosophy for the immediate future.

Wasn't it mentioned as a loan deal with us paying £25k per week (as per his loan deal this season)?

Think if he remains out of BR's plans we should make a move for him. Would fit the description of the sort of midfielder we need in terms of creativity and his ability to play most midfield roles.

His wages might be 25-30k a week but I think you will see hunger from a player who wants to prove himself in the PL again and I think BMD would see a nice return for the money he would have to spend to get him. Especially if he wants to operate this 4-5-1 in away matches JC would be good behind a lone striker.

We've already got a midfielder of the description we need sitting in the reserves. Would prefer all our focus was on strengthening the defence personally

Maybe but even so you can't rely upon one player to create all the chances think we need players like Cole around. I think he is one of those players that could bring the best out of everyone playing around him purely in the way he brings everyone into the game who plays around him.

Do agree with your view on the defence do not understand why our biggest aerial threat (Pearce) has been suddenly dropped. Gorkks is good for all his experience but will not develop any further as a player. Pearce on the other hand I'm pretty sure was once being compared to the young John Terry of ten years ago. Its obvious to everyone he has future captain potential. Do not see what Gorkks brings to the team that Pearce doesn't.

One more centre back such as Dann from Blackburn may be a good addition.

Not sure if I'd be overly happy with this, but definitely has the experience.

Only one winner if it is down to money. Not convinced Cole is a real fighter but certainly better than existing mid fielders once he is fit.
