It's pretty clear that FL knows RFC have bid for Gylfi, but it doesn't seem like he knows how far along negotiations are, and clearly believes that there's plenty of time for Liverpool to step in - in which case we're obviously out of the running.

Bearing in mind Siggy's Dad is a big mate of Brians I think it is fairly certain that RFC will only bid if they KNOW Gylfi wants to come back. There is no point bidding if he definitely wants to go to Liverpool as I think it is all but certain that he would be Rodgers first signing if he does want to go there.

I can see a lot of reasons why Liverpool would be a bad option for him at the moment though. It will take time for Rodgers to get them to play his way and it could be career damaging for Gylfi if results don't go well and Rodgers is under pressure very early in the season.

Surely better to come back here to where you are loved and the team will be built round you - as by contrast this could be massively career enhancing.

Maybe they didn't want to step on Swansea's toes after Gylfi had done so well there. However, maybe they know the deal depended on Brendan and it's fallen through because he's left and now the club feel they can give it a go. I don't think it's Gylfi but given the way the club conducts itself that would be the honourable thing to do in this case.

Yes - just read that myself. This is very odd.

To be honest the only two ex players that I would be really pleased about would be Siggy and Long. Cannot really get excited about having say Doyle or Sidwell back - almost certainly not the players they were when we had them. Shorey is a possibility but although I think he could do a job I am not sure it would cause hobnob to melt down.

The other possibility is USA - signed as cover, so we can let Andersen out on loan but hardly a "meltdown" signing.

So I hope it is Gylfi. Time will tell.

I was discounting him as I can see absolutely no prospect of Chelsea selling/loaning us him at this point in the season. They will want to appoint a permanent manager and in any case why not keep a player who performed well in the CL final in the squad.

I would say we had considerably less chance of landing him than Gylfi and if it were by some remote chance to happen it would be late in the transfer window.

I read, maybe on here or twitter that the delay in TSI wasn't affecting deals. Now it's complete cant see why there'd be a change now if (particularily around fees) there was no affect on deals anyway.

I'm not really sure anyone knows but certainly looks like it is not Gylfi. Only other player that may make this forum go crazy is possibly Long. They currently have no manager and would imagine they'd reject bids until one is in position.

If there has been a bid for an ex royal of course. Could be Sidwell I suppose.

It still seems really odd to me that the RFC, Hoff and Swansea fans all rate Gylfi so highly and yet club managers are not fighting over him. He looks very much the right player at what in 2012 is a bargain basement price. I think whoever does end up with him will make a huge profit. All very odd.

Really not too fussed about getting gylfi back tbf.

Just not sure he'll still fit into the way we play (i.e. with Roberts). Happy to be proved otherwise if it ever happens though
