I am sure I read some tweets recently stating we had put an offer on the table for Gylfi but it was unlikely to be accepted as Swansea had virtually got him. That was before Brendan moved to Liverpool though.

This thread is all a bit of fun but on a serous note I will be astounded if Brian has not been on the phone to Anton and said "do you want to make some money - if so we need to sign Siggy now 7M a lot of money but you will make a huge profit in time". If Anton has any sense he should back Brian to the hilt on this.

Then it is just a case of phoning Siggy and getting him to pop in on the way to Swansea.

I would not normally condone trebling our transfer record on one player but this is a chance just too good to miss. If Brian does have a transfer budget of 15M as suggested I will be more than happy if we bought Siggy and spent the rest on cheaper players/freebies. Would even be happy to keep Church instead of adding Rhodes (that might help swing it for Gylfi anyway).

I think it will come down to us v Liverpool for Gylfi but the fact that we would build our team round him might just edge him our way as a successful season or two at RFC would lead to a transfer to a top 6 side.

In all seriousness I agree, I can easily see Brian assuming a big club'd come in and not bothering to consider him as a realistic prospect.

Then when the TSI deal goes through officially, Swansea look set to get him for less than Brian expected and he hears Rodgers is likely to go to Liverpool, I can also see him giving Anton a bell and saying get me Sig and I guarantee you I'll keep the team up and a European challenge could be just about realistic 1st season. Get the backing and calling Sig at the last minute to say Rodgers is going, Swansea isn't a great bet for you now. Come back here and I'll get you European football in two seasons or you can go where you like for £10m (example figure).

We've picked people up at the last minute when we heard they were going elsewhere and we thought we were the better deal. Hunt and more recently Gorkss allegedly.

Gylfi to Liverpool possible and maybe we have bid for Long. Brian and Long quite close after all. Apart from Brendan going to Liverpool I can't see what else has changed with Gylfi situation and I'd expect Brendan to take Gylfi to Liverpool.

With Gerrards injury record, I think Gylfi would get plenty of opportunity to play....however he'd probably get well hacked off having to play alongside underachievers like Downing Adam and Henderson

Never seen him as bullish about our future before. Said that with the current strategy we will hopefully become a 'world class club' in the next few years.

Rumours of Gylfi and Long....I don't dare believe. If we sign them, what else do we need? Decent cover/competition at LB, CB and CM. And we've got a competitive squad, where some of the key additions fit in with the club, players and management.

I read, maybe on here or twitter that the delay in TSI wasn't affecting deals. Now it's complete cant see why there'd be a change now if (particularily around fees) there was no affect on deals anyway.

I was tipped off in January and subsequently posted on here that we made a loan bid for Gylfi in January but the key snag in the deal was around the insurances etc that we'd have to put in place (and costs attributed to this) for having a player worth £Xm on the pitch, on our books etc.

Could well be that it's part of PL regulation to have this level of insurance in place for the £multi million worth players in the top flight and this now means we have sufficient cover to go after Sigurdsson? Could also be a case of TSI underwriting a higher insurance agreement for the club now that the deal is finalised which allows us to realistically sign players of Sigurdsson's value / other players of a similar value?

I suppose a loan deal in Jan would seem relatively costly for the short period of time. Inflating various costs at that time. Though if we have approached since promotion and it was out of reach I can't see what would have changed bar Bremdan leaving Swansea. Budget in place since promotion despite the delay so we hear.

Right now should these rumours be true I feel it might be Long being he and Brian were so close. Slight issue West Brom not having a manager though.

It certainly seems as if we were interested in January as Big Foot says. Gylfi confirmed our interest in the interview he did, I think for the Welsh media, just after he joined Swansea where he said he had the choice of them, Aston Villa and Reading but wanted to move to the Premier League and fancied Swansea.

I would think Rodgers will take him to Liverpool now.

Obviously Gylfi and Henderson are different players but this time last year Henderson had just finished a really impressive season at sunderland and was moving to Liverpool to be a long-term replacement for Gerrard and to learn from him. After one season at Lpool he looks a bit of donkey now so I'ts not the greatest incentive for a player to go to liverpool when you see how the club has wasted (some blame is obviously down to the players of course) some of last years best players in Adam and to a lesser extent downing and Carroll.

Personally I thought Liverpool could have a really exciting team with who they bought but most have flopped
