It's no-one's 'responsibility' to ensure that they don't get wasted
How is it not your own responsibility to ensure you don't get severely intoxicated?
If I go out, drink 20 pints of beer, and make a fool of myself you're saying I shouldn't be held responsible?
You would be responsible for your actions, not those of other people. But seriously, what's the point of only quoting half my sentence?
Was "in case there happens to be a rapist in the room" really worth quoting?
I guess you're right, you can't be responsible for other people's actions, but I think you can certainly be responsible for putting yourself in the situation. I.e. she willingly went back with someone when under the influence, and at no point did she make it clear she was unhappy Evans was watching..
Basically my argument is its not like Evans was stalking someone, bundled them down an alley and raped them. The whole situation seems very uncertain, he could have been extremely drunk himself, and thought the girl was up for it considering she was fine with having sex with the other guy and being watched according to the trail. She never said no or stop, and the evidence all seems a bit unclear, i.e. the other guy gets off because they were seen linking arms, kissing.. if she wasn't in a fit state to give consent how could she have agreed to have sex with him later, but not have agreed to have sex with Evans?
I'm not denying Evans didn't rape her or what he did was wrong, I just think 5 years is harsh considering the circumstances.
