Simon's Church Maybe, but Lescott will know how to wind up Balotelli and get him sent off.
Although I wouldn't fancy our chances against any of those three.
For that reason i doubt Balotelli would play against us

just some bloke Italy winning today could see Ireland become the first team to be mathematically elimin8d in just a few hours time.

An Italian victory is also, perversely, our best chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
I'm not even sure if I understand the expression 'Ireland qualifying for the quarter-finals', but whatever.

Surely a Croatia-Italy draw is what you want. Puts Spain, Italy and Croatia all within mathematical reach. The last thing you want is Italy on 4 points, Croatia on 3, basically meaning you need to beat the World Champions to have a chance of staying in.
With an Italy-Croatia draw you'll 'only' need a point against Spain to keep your hopes well alive.

Starfish
My thinking was that if Italy won, and we managed to draw tonight and beat Italy on Monday, we would then be level with them (on 4 each) but with a better head-to-head. And then we would need Spain to beat Croatia for us to finish second (I am a dreamer, I know) and it's looking like a draw now anyway.
And the draw will mean we need a point tonight, beat Italy on Monday and hope that Croatia hold Spain. I see that as even less likely.
