Sorry for being an Aussie, but.....

What does this mean?

It's not just you HR. Probably cos I think too much, but I completely missed the Smithy reference, and being aware that Corden and Smith had a romance that went sour. thought it was a metaphor for us and Gylfi.

Hampshire Royal The top photo is Smithy from Gavin and Stacey, the second one is a ophoto of the actress Sheridan Smith.

Thank you good sir.

Both have a nickname of Smithy in 'Gavin and Stacey'

Shocking reference I agree, but it's what came to mind.

I can't remember back to the Tommy Smith thread a few years ago. Anyone know how many pages we have to rack up before we beat the record length for threads about people we don't actually sign????? :D

Sheridan Smith was also in Gavin and Stavey.

She played Smithy's sister.

Not sure how relevant it is to the last 10 pages of this thread (that I haven't read).

It was to do with a poster being called Smithy, and then someone wondering whether said poster was male or female, at which point I posted up two tv characters with the nickname of 'Smithy'.

Challenging stuff I know.

Dear doubters,

D-Day in Sig saga: Gylfi Sigurdsson to choose between Liverpool and Tottenham in next 24 hours

“The bottom line is he just wants to play and the main thing football-wise is to find the right team which will suit him the most," says his father

Swansea and Reading, as well as German giants Bayern Munich, have also expressed their interest in the £8million-rated star, who came from nowhere to light up the Premier League during his six-month loan spell at the Liberty Stadium.

* Just because some on here like to wind you up and play to the crowd doesn't mean we all do. Just a thought.

i bet it would make everyones day if gylfi did a surprise signing for us, i dont believe it will happen anymore but if it does i will be screaming at the top of my lungs at work today. if he is looking for first team football im still not sure why he isnt choosing us, i mean: we have a brilliant manager that he likes, we will build a team around him, he will be a guaranteed starter,he is getting paid very well to play for us if the offers are true, and most importantly he knows most of the team already because he grew up with a lot of them. if it was me it would be a no-brainer because he would be able to develop and prove himself at a higher level for a midtable club then move on to a top 4 club in a year or a couple of years. he is only 22 after all...

Tottenham best option, he'll fill the big gap they're about to get in midfield, not in risk of relegation, more money & chance of European football. We're not a good choice for top end players when the likes of the top 6 are sniffing. End of story.

No-one has used the word proof or fact, but some seem to be confident this is all one big wind up just because the media never reported our interest.

The Independant, a far more reputable paper, also runs with that we were in the running - http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foot ... 01840.html

Gylfi's father has confirmed he did not agree terms with Swansea. Interesting.

'Expressed an interest' does not necessarily equal meeting the player, discussing a move and offering a contract.

No, of course, but it's what many wanted confirmation of at the least, rather than taking mine or Iceland Stokie's word for it which has been criticised recently. The rest is up to you all. Personally, I get nothing from telling anyone mis-truths. I stand by that BM and then BM and AZ met with Gylfi. More than one person confirmed that for me, and neither have been unreliable before.

I think you'd have to be pretty naive to think that we didn't at least have an informal chat with him, saying that we were going places with the new owners and he'd be very welcome back here. If his response was that he's moved on and can sign for an established club then that pretty well ends the conversation. what is the point of us making offers then?

^^^ this.

He must have always known Reading was an option but the very fact he opted to (or widely reported to) agreed verbally to go to Swansea showed that Reading didn't have quite the sentimental pull that many of us might have hoped for. I think the thought of returning to the Madejski would have held some appeal but not on the same level as European Football at a (currently) much bigger club.

Now should he go to Tottenham/Liverpool and struggle for a year/18 months then it's very much a move I could see him making.
