...back on topic which isn't the history of Huddersfield Town.... :D

Piece from Chronicle about Rhodes ...

However, it appears Reading's chances of signing Huddersfield Town hotshot Jordan Rhodes are diminishing by the week.

Royals have been chasing the 22-year-old for some time but the Chronicle understands they have been put off by his price tag.

The Scotland international scored 40 goals in 46 games for Terriers last season ending in promotion to the Championship.

And though Reading are willing to use ex-Huddersfield loan defender Sean Morrison as a makeweight in the deal, the West Yorkshire outfit appear reluctant to sell.

"We're aware of Jordan Rhodes but I can't see him moving in this transfer window if I'm honest," admitted McDermott.

"Huddersfield were reluctant to sell him in League One and will be even more so now that have been promoted to the Championship.

"They say they don't need to sell, though if a massive offer came in I suppose he might go. But it would be a surprise if that happened. I certainly wouldn't sell him if I was the Huddersfield manager."

Guthrie's arrival means Royals will not be renewing attempts to sign Hayden Mullins permanently, after the Reading-born player spent the end of last season on loan at Madejski Stadium from cash-strapped Portsmouth.

However, McDermott is talking to QPR about a possible permanent switch for 24-year-old versatile defender Matthew Connolly who was also on loan at Reading last season.

Wonder how Rhodes feels about the whole situation. Surely now would be the best time for him to move on. If Huddersfield endure a season of struggle and he himself struggles to get chances, you would imagine his value and list of potential suitors would greatly diminish.

Rhodes said straight away that he would be delighted to play in the championship with Huddersfield.
He would only leave if Huddersfield told him they wanted him to leave.

Huddersfield have constantly said they don't want him to leave,
and have no need to sell him.

All Huddersfield have to do now is get players who will create chances for Rhodes.
My father says that Rhodes reminds him of Lineaker.
Put the ball in the box, and Rhodes will put it in the old onion bag.

Tbh would make sense for him to stay, potentially he could be one season away from PL football anyway depending on what Huddersfield do this season I wouldn't be surprised to see them in and around the top 6.

Fair play to Rhodes for not forcing through a move and to HT for showing the ambition to keep him. However, when it comes to value for money, even you'd have to admit that there are better deals to be had. We've just signed Pogrebnyak on a free, for example, and no doubt there'll be other examples this summer across the leagues. You can forget about having Morrison now though!

Good luck for next season, hope you can take a few big scalps on the way to a safe mid-table finish at least.

It looks like Huddersfield have turned their attention to some French geezer who plays for Villarreal in Spain

Look at what happened to Sam Baldock, scored loads in L1, got his move to West Ham and after a decent start he wasn't picked. Then Maynard and Vas Te (established Championship strikers) joined and now he'll will probably see out his lucrative contract in the reserves. So Rhodes really needs to prove himself in the Championship first and Huddersfield is as good a place to do it as any.

I always thought Rhodes would stay. He seems to show some loyalty and as McDermott stated he wouldn't sell him if he was manager. If they dont get promotion next year I can't see him staying any longer so he better have a good season or they wont get the money people are talking about ( between £4 & 8m being touted around). Best of luck to them for the new season.

I cant see us (Reading) bringing many more in as Brian said he will give the current squad a go. My guess would be connolly as he is versatile across the back 4 and then maybe some creativity, Koren perhaps?

Its nice to be linked to these players when 10 years ago, we seemed to be linked to every player underperforming. Shefki Kuqi?

i guess this means that we dont need to sell morrison!!!! disappointing about rhodes though, fair play to him. we will probably loan out morrison for the season anyway, more than likely to ht. since were probably going to be playing a 4-5-1 we HAVE to sign a creative midfielder. we possibly dont need another striker but we have to have some creativity in the midfield now. also sign 3 new defenders and we will be a solid squad.

I think we do need a another striker .... below Pog and Roberts we have strikers who are unknowns at this level and that's not being disrespectful.....if they don't fire in anyway,it's a long time until January ...don't want to be thinking back " if only we had bought another striker in the summer"...also not sure Roberts is up for a whole season as a first choice striker ...all IMO

Le Fondre can cut it, Hunt will give it 100% sometimes it will come off sometimes it wont & Rhodes is prolific enough to build a partnership with the Pog/Roberts.

Lets be fair... our front two is going to be:

One or both of Roberts & Pog
If only one, one of Le Fondre, Hunt or Rhodes.

If two of the three "backups" play, I cant see us having enough of a punch to win many games

fair enough, if we signed another striker i wouldnt complain at all. i still think we need a class attacking midfielder though. preferably we need: 1 striker, attacking mid, simpson,lb,cb. that will put us at 8 signings for the summer which is how many we need if we are going to stay up. norwich and swansea both signed 8 players and managed to keep most of their championship squad playing all season, look how they finished. i trust in bm to figure out what we need and to fill those places with quality signings.

Replace Rhodes with Church....now we definitely dont have enough punch .... as I don't see Rhodes joining

i like church, but i really feel his time has been served here. we need to sell him to a championship side as i feel that is his level of football. i know he has shown flashes of brilliance but he has never been consistant enough to be a starter for us in the championship let alone the prem. sell church get another striker and use the extra space to sign junior hoilett :D

We have only stop negotiating for him for the time being. We will sign another striker before the transfer window shuts
